WIC-Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department

WIC-Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department WIC provides community resources. WIC is the nation's most successful public health nutrition program.

The WIC program helps build healthy families by providing healthy foods free to pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children and supports and educates moms to help them breastfeed successfully. We provide health food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and community referrals to income-eligible pregnant or breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to 5 years old.

Folic Acid is an important B vitamin that helps the body make healthy new cells. While everyone needs folic acid, people who are pregnant, or plan on becoming pregnant, need extra folic acid supplementation in addition to eating vitamin-rich foods. Getting enough folic acid before and during pregnancy can prevent major birth defects in a developing baby’s spine and brain.

Some foods with folic acid include:
🥬 Leafy green vegetables
🍑 Fresh, frozen, and canned fruits
🫘Dried or canned beans, fresh or frozen peas, and nuts
🍞Enriched breads, cereals, and other whole grain products

Woo-hoo! 👏 Way to go, Nebraska! 🤱✨

If you are planning on starting your breastfeeding journey or wanting to learn more, we are here to help and support you!

🤍 Strong systems and support are reflected in Nebraska’s breastfeeding data.

According to CDC data, Nebraska ranks:
⭐ 1st in the nation for exclusive breastfeeding through 6 months
⭐ 3rd in the nation for exclusive breastfeeding through 3 months
These outcomes don’t happen by chance—they reflect strong collaboration, education, and advocacy statewide.

Let’s keep building on this success to ensure equitable breastfeeding support for all Nebraska families.
