The military has come out and said, via [former Secretary of Defense] Leon Panetta last year, that we are integrating the military, that gender doesn't matter. But if gender doesn't matter, or if that's the policy the military espouses, why does gender identity matter? It shouldn't. Keep in mind the United States is the last English-speaking country that excludes service by transgender people.
