As graduation approaches, Dr. Yamini Arukala is reflecting on the moments that made residency so meaningful, from building lasting relationships with patients and colleagues to gaining confidence as a physician and growing both personally and professionally along the way.

After graduation, she will be staying in Lincoln and joining Bryan NorthPointe Family Medicine, a decision she says was easy after falling in love with the community.

What excites her most about family medicine is the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients, and to care for individuals and families through every stage of life. She looks forward to being a trusted partner in their health journeys while continuing to grow and serve the evolving needs of the community.

Her advice to incoming residents: stay curious, ask questions, speak up, and give yourself grace. “You’re here to learn,” she says. “You won’t know everything right away, but you’ll grow into it.”

Congratulations, Dr. Arukala — we can’t wait to see all the lives you’ll impact in this next chapter!

Join us in welcoming Dr. Ben Martin to our faculty, bringing nearly 40 years of experience of caring for patients.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the insights, lessons, and real-life experiences I’ve gained throughout my years in practice with the residents, helping them grow both professionally and personally as they continue building their own careers in medicine.”

One piece of advice he has for residents: plan for the future while still appreciating today.

Originally from Pender, Nebraska, Dr. Martin and his wife of 50 years have four grown children. He enjoys golfing, gardening, building electronic projects, staying active, and spending time with family and friends.

We're happy to have Dr. Martin as a member of our faculty!

For Dr. Jon Wood, the past three years of his residency will soon be over; however, the memories of his time spent here will stay with him. The most rewarding part has been watching his confidence grow—especially in his interactions with both co-residents and patients. The cumulative impact of thousands of moments has shaped him into the kind of physician he always hoped to become.

Dr. Wood says he will miss the people. From supportive co-residents and deeply invested faculty to the incredible nursing and support staff, the relationships made his experience so meaningful.

Dr. Wood advises new residents to stay humble, be curious, and trust the process. There will be days when you feel overwhelmed or behind, but growth happens so gradually that you don’t notice it until you look back. Say “yes” often, take chances, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Even when it feels uncomfortable—lean in and do it anyway.

The next leg of his training will be a one-year Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the UNMC in Omaha. After that, the opportunities will be limitless thanks to the knowledge and skills he has gained in Lincoln.

Dr. Wood looks forward to building lasting relationships with patients and helping them navigate not just illness, but the bigger picture of health, quality of life, and meaning. It’s the breadth of family medicine and the ability to care for patients across all stages of life that makes the future so exciting to him.

We can't wait to see what great things you will achieve, Dr. Wood!

We're celebrating Dr. Nick Hanlan, one of our outstanding third-year resident physicians, as he prepares to complete his residency with us.

The most rewarding part of Dr. Hanlan's residency is the people. From working through challenges alongside his co-residents to receiving unwavering support from faculty and building meaningful relationships with patients and their families, those connections have made the greatest impact on him.

Dr. Hanlan's thoughtful advice for incoming residents reflects the same compassion and humility he brings to patient care every day: be respectful, ask for help, communicate clearly, and stay confident while remaining flexible.

Following graduation, Dr. Hanlan will begin his family medicine career with Mosaic Life Care, Family Care North Pointe in St. Joseph, Missouri. He looks forward to building relationships with new patients and providing continuity of care for generations of families.

Dr. Hanlan and his wife will miss Lincoln's beautiful walking trails. From peaceful walks together to stroller strolls with their newborn son, those outdoor moments became a special part of their family's time here.

Congratulations, Dr. Hanlan! We can't wait to see the positive impact you will have in St. Joseph.

Dr. Molly Creevan is finishing up her final weeks of family medicine residency. Reflecting on the past three years, about all that she has learned and where she sees her future are things worth sharing.

The most rewarding parts of her residency, Dr. Creevan noted, was learning how to be a good doctor, to never quit learning, and the relationships she developed and built with co-residents. She will miss having access to all the specialties and to everyone's willingness to help and answer questions.

For new residents, Dr. Creevan says to "soak up as much as you can. The time goes very quickly, and the more you can become a good doctor under the umbrella and protection of residency with all the help in the world, the better doctor you will be in the future."

Following graduation in June, Dr. Creevan is headed to Beatrice Community Hospital, where she will work in the Emergency Department.

We wish you all the best in Beatrice, Dr. Creevan!
