I'm going to be real with you for a minute.

Functional medicine isn't a magic pill. I cannot hand you a supplement and undo years of poor sleep, chronic stress, processed food, and untreated hormonal imbalance overnight.

What I CAN do is give you the roadmap. The right testing, the personalized plan, the supplements your body actually needs, and the support to make sustainable change.

If I could share just ONE thing with women in perimenopause, it's this: don't drink coffee on an empty stomach.

Eat breakfast FIRST β€” aim for 25-35g of protein β€” then enjoy your coffee.

Why? Coffee on an empty stomach spikes your cortisol, which leads to:

We recently covered the Dirty Dozen. Today, the good news: the Clean 15.

These are the fruits and vegetables EWG found to have the LOWEST pesticide residue in 2026. Meaning if your budget is tight, these are the items where buying conventional (non-organic) is generally a safer bet.

A few things to keep in mind:

βœ… "Lower residue" still doesn't mean zero β€” wash your produce well.
βœ… Buying organic is still better when you can swing it.
βœ… Eating MORE vegetables (even conventional ones) is almost always better than eating fewer.

Bottom line: Eat the rainbow, prioritize organic where it matters most, and stop stressing about the rest.

If you're taking a prenatal with folic acid in it, and you're positive for the MTHFR gene mutation, you may be doing more harm than good.

Here's why this matters:

The MTHFR gene is responsible for converting folate into its usable form (methylfolate).

When that gene has a mutation, your body can't efficiently process synthetic folic acid, and it can actually build up in the bloodstream where it competes with the active form your cells actually need.

For pregnant or TTC women, that's a big deal. We need methylfolate for healthy fetal development, hormone metabolism, detox pathways, and so much more.

The fix? Test, don't guess.

Once we know your MTHFR status, we can choose a prenatal (and a methylation protocol) that actually works WITH your genetics, not against them.

If you're trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or planning to be soon β€” this is a conversation worth having.

Play the long game with your health.

This is the message I come back to with my patients again and again.

The quick-fix culture has women chasing 30-day cleanses, miracle supplements, and crash diets, and then wondering why they feel worse six months later.

True healing is the daily, sometimes unglamorous work of nourishing your body, balancing your hormones, sleeping enough, moving your body, and managing stress.

The choices you make at 35 are setting the foundation for how you feel at 55. The choices you make at 55 set the stage for 75.

You don't need a quick fix. You need a sustainable approach with someone who is in it with you for the long haul.
