Yesterday, our Club had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with other Zonta Clubs from our area including Springfield, Mascoutah, and Alton-Wood River to discuss Zonta’s mission, goals, and projects. We learned a lot during sessions on microplastics with our District Governor and a presentation on Environmental Sustainability Issues in Illinois by John J. Kim, Attorney with Brown, Hay, and Stephens as well as Former Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

This week is National Crime Victims Rights Week. Each year, we place pinwheels on the Logan County Courthouse lawn in recognition of the victims of crime in our county over the last year. If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to check out this year’s pinwheel “garden”.

Our International Women’s Day Tea yesterday was beautiful (despite the weather 😉)! Not only did we partake in some very delicious food, we also learned about the effects of microplastics to all of us and celebrated two outstanding women in our community for their contributions. We honored Melanie Welch and Linda Franz with our Yellow Rose Award, which is Zonta’s longstanding symbol of friendship. We use this award to celebrate women who exhibit true friendship in many ways to the community around them. Congrats to Melanie and Linda! 💛

None of this would have been possible without the many hands who contributed to the day - thank you to the hosts who set beautiful tables, the hands and feet that shopped, prepped, cooked, and served the food and tea, the First Presbyterian Church for allowing us to hold the event, and to all of you for joining us!
