Hi, my name is Jessica Ellington and I am a nurse at Lincoln County Hospital. As a kid, I had a lot of health issues, so I spent a lot of time around nurses and other healthcare workers. I always admired how caring and awesome my nurses were, and I knew I wanted to make a difference in patients’ lives like they did. My mom also played a part in my path to nursing, as she worked as a CNA for many years and encouraged me to get my CNA in high school. From there, I knew nursing was for me.
One small thing I do that I think makes a big difference for patients is simply listening to them and allowing them to express their needs and concerns. I have found that taking the time to truly listen goes a long way.
What I love about caring for patients in this community is getting to know everyone and being able to see their progress. In a larger hospital, you may not have the opportunity to follow up with patients, but in a small community, we get to see how they are doing and celebrate those improvements.
While there isn’t just one person who has impacted my nursing journey the most, I have been fortunate to work alongside many nurses over the years who I aspire to be like. My coworkers here at LCH continue to inspire me every day with the care and dedication they bring to their patients.
