My name is Kelly Schneider.

I was inspired to become a nurse because I was intrigued by the flexibility of the schedule and the opportunity to take care of people. That combination made nursing feel like the right fit for me.

One small thing I do that I think makes a big difference for patients is simply maintaining a smile. Even small moments of positivity can help patients feel more comfortable and supported.

What I love about caring for patients in this community is the unique challenges that come with working in a small town. Those challenges make the work meaningful and rewarding in different ways every day.

The people who have impacted my nursing journey the most are the many positive influences I’ve had throughout my RN career. I’ve learned something from each of them, and it’s hard to choose just one.

I was inspired to become a nurse very early on. When I was in grade school, my grandpa had lung cancer, and we were at the hospital a lot. I was inspired by the care he received, and most importantly, the care the nurses showed toward my grandpa as well as our family. I knew I wanted to be there for other patients and their families during hard times, just like they were for us.

One small thing I do that I think makes a big difference for patients is slowing down and taking the time to have a genuine, unrushed conversation. You can learn so much and create a strong relationship with patients, and selfishly, it fills my cup and reminds me why I wanted to become a nurse.

What I love about caring for patients in this community is the variety of healthcare provided at a rural hospital, as well as getting to know the community better and being there for them during vulnerable times.

The people who have impacted my nursing journey the most are the veteran nurses who are always willing to answer questions and never make me feel like a burden. I love and learn so much from their stories, and I believe every nurse could write a book about the incredible things we see.

I was inspired to become a nurse after working as a paramedic and getting out of the ambulance. That experience gave me a strong foundation in patient care and a desire to continue helping people in a different way, which ultimately led me to nursing.

One small thing I do that I think makes a big difference for patients is focusing on education—especially when it comes to dietary choices. Taking the time to teach and positively reinforce healthy decisions can have a lasting impact on a patient’s overall well-being.

What I love about caring for patients in this community is the opportunity to help people make better choices for their health. In a small community, those changes can really make a difference over time, and it’s rewarding to be part of that process.

The people who have impacted my nursing journey the most are the nurse practitioners I’ve worked with. Their knowledge, approach to patient care, and willingness to teach have helped shape the way I practice and continue to grow as a nurse.

Hi, my name is Lori Spear. I am a Registered Nurse/Patient Care Coordinator, Skilled Swing Bed Director, and Discharge Planning Coordinator at Lincoln County Hospital.

I was inspired to become a nurse by my dad. I started working in healthcare as a candy striper at a nursing home on weekends when I was 14. I enjoyed visiting with the residents and hearing about their lives and experiences growing up. I then worked as a CNA and later as an RN.

One small thing I do that I think makes a big difference for patients is listening to their needs and showing compassion, which plays an important role in the healing process.

What I love about caring for patients in this community is that I have known many of them for years, as well as their families, which makes the care more personal and meaningful.

My journey to becoming a nurse began during my senior year of high school when my grandma was hospitalized. I remember sitting with her and wishing I had the knowledge to do more for her—to better understand her care and support her at home. That experience stayed with me and ultimately led me to pursue nursing.

That perspective still shapes how I care for my patients today. I treat every patient the way I would want my own family to be treated—with compassion, patience, and genuine concern. I know how important it is to trust the person caring for your loved one, and I strive to be that person for every family I encounter.

Working as a nurse in a small community is incredibly meaningful to me. I’ve been part of this community my whole life, and it is an honor to give back by caring for the people who make it so special.

Most importantly, my daughters are my “why” and my greatest inspiration. They push me to be better, to lead with compassion and kindness, and to set an example of caring for others. They remind me every day of what matters most, and they are at the heart of everything I do—both as a mother and as a nurse.

I have worked at Lincoln County Hospital since 2010, starting as a certified nursing aide and earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It has been incredibly rewarding to grow within the same organization and continue serving the community that means so much to me. In my current role, I serve as the Risk Manager, Quality Director, Education Coordinator, and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, allowing me to support both our patients and staff in meaningful ways across many areas of care.
