For April, donating platelets is more than just a good deed, it’s deeply personal.

“When my daughter Ryan (who’s now 17) was just 5, she had a very bad illness,” April shared. “Her platelet count dropped, and she needed platelets to live. They helped save her life. I’m so thankful.”

That experience lit a spark in April that has never gone out. Since then, she’s been inspired to give back. She’s donated an incredible 19 times and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon!

Anna's father had a simple but powerful motto: "Get MAD" — Make A Difference.

As a 9/11 first responder, NYPD Sergeant, and avid blood donor, he embodied those words every day. Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, he lived nearly 20 more years — years filled with family milestones and a lasting legacy of service.

Huge thanks to the incredible team at Nebraska Medicine for showing what it means to care both inside and outside the hospital walls.

At today’s employee blood drive, staff members rolled up their sleeves to donate blood, proving that saving lives doesn’t stop at the bedside. Each donation made today will go on to help patients in our community who depend on a strong blood supply.
