According to a new study: during COVID-19, as real world evidence on vaccine safety and effectiveness grew, vaccine hesitancy dropped sharply.

65% of initially hesitant individuals ultimately chose vaccination.

Vaccine confidence isn’t build overnight—but new studies show it CAN be built. Trust grows when clear public health communications are made accessible.

Nurses need to strongly recommend that pregnant individuals receive the necessary vaccinations, as this is a very important step in protecting both the mother and the baby.

Rubella is usually a mild disease, but it can be dangerous for pregnant people and their newborns. If someone becomes infected with rubella during their first trimester, there's a high risk that the child could be born with Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS), which can lead to birth defects like heart problems, deafness and blindness.

The good news is that rubella is easy to prevent when communities have access to vaccines. We're working to make that possible in places like Kenya, Zambia and Ethiopia. Volunteers are helping families learn more about routine vaccinations and connecting them with healthcare resources to stay safe and healthy.

Nurses Who Vaccinate are appalled and outraged by the January 24, 2026 fatal shooting of 37-year-old registered nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis.

We offer our deepest condolences to Alex's family, colleagues, and the wider community.

Nurses are primarily responsible for caring for their patients, but they are also ethically obligated to advocate against injustice and human rights violations. Provision 8.2 of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses is clear: "Where there are human rights violations, nurses ought to and must stand up for those rights and demand accountability."

The role of nurses in advocacy extends beyond direct patient care and the needs of patients' families, with a broader aim to contribute to a society where safety and well-being are considered the fundamental norms.

We unequivocally condemn violence within our communities. The gravity of this particular incident, along with others, underscores the critical need for both transparency and accountability from the federal government.

Children, especially those younger than 5 years and those with certain underlying medical conditions, can experience substantial morbidity, including severe or fatal complications, from influenza virus infection.

Children also play a pivotal role in the transmission of influenza virus infection to household and other close contacts.

The AAP recommends annual influenza vaccination of all children without medical contraindications starting at 6 months of age. Influenza vaccination is an important strategy for protecting children and the broader community as well as reducing the overall burden of respiratory illnesses when other viruses are cocirculating. Any licensed influenza vaccine appropriate for age and health status can be administered, as soon as possible in the season, without preference for one product or formulation.

The number of people in hospital in England with flu is at a record high for this time of year, with numbers up 55 per cent in a week, new NHS figures show.

Health chiefs warned the “unprecedented wave” was pushing staff to the limit, and said the surge in admissions shows “just how dangerous the situation is getting across our NHS hospitals”.

Infections will get worse for the NHS as ‘the peak is not in sight yet’, says NHS medical director

Nurses Who Vaccinate expresses deep concern regarding the actions during the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting. The committee members consistently disregarded scientific consensus and expertise, while repeatedly promoting unsubstantiated claims designed to create doubt and confusion about vaccination.

That is why we've signed on to the following coalition statement.

“The evidence remains clear: the hepatitis B birth dose is safe and an essential component in helping children develop immunity against a serious, potentially lifelong disease. In fact, since the U.S. implemented the hepatitis B birth dose in 1991, annual hepatitis B infections among infants and children have dropped 99%, from 16,000 to less than 20. This progress is directly attributable to timely vaccination."

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) has reviewed the relevant scientific literature and medical professional guidance related to the hepatitis B vaccine among newborns and continues to recommend that all newborns receive a hepatitis B vaccine birth dose within 24 hours of delivery.

On December 1, 2025, the NJ Acting Health Commissioner and Northeast Public Health Collaborative issued a statement (https://www.nj.gov/health/news/2025/approved/20251201c.shtml) to this effect and, on December 3, also issued the following Clinical Considerations document which reinforces key information about the importance of hepatitis B vaccination in infants.

“A South Carolina measles outbreak has grown to 16 cases, including five from schools with low vaccination rates, state health officials said Oct. 14. The South Carolina Department of Health first identified the outbreak of the highly contagious viral disease in the state’s Upstate region in early October. A dozen cases have been concentrated in Spartanburg County, where two elementary schools have nearly 140 students quarantining at home because they weren't vaccinated against measles. Some cases have been related to travel or through close contacts of known cases. Others have no known source, which state health officials said suggests ‘measles is circulating in the community and could spread further.’”

One charter school in South Carolina's Upstate region had an immunization rate at just 17%, according to state health data.

“The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects the 2025-26 fall and winter respiratory disease season to have a similar number of peak hospitalizations due to Covid-19, flu and respiratory syncytial virus as there were last season. But there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of getting seriously ill with any of those circulating viruses this year—and vaccination plays a key role…The CDC estimates that about 1 million people were hospitalized with the flu last season, and there were up to 130,000 flu deaths, based on preliminary data from October 2024 through May 2025. Similar CDC estimates suggest that from October 2024 through September 2025, there have been almost 540,000 Covid-19 hospitalizations and up to 63,000 Covid-19 deaths.”

It’s that time of year when the leaves are turning golden, there’s a chill in the air and the threat of respiratory viruses like Covid-19, influenza or RSV looms across the country.

"Where is the accountability for those who produce health misinformation that harms the health of children, asked Benjamin Schreiber, a senior adviser to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), at the World Health Summit in Berlin on Tuesday. ‘We are now living in a situation where the information environment in which we live has become a determinant of health,’ said Schreiber, adding that misinformation is a ‘key risk to achieving global vaccination goals.’ The United States has become a global focal point for vaccine scepticism since Robert F Kennedy Jr was appointed Health Secretary. He has defunded mRNA vaccine research, dismissed members of the national vaccine advisory body and appointed several vaccine sceptics in their place, and revived the discredited notion that high autism rates are linked to vaccines. The US state of Florida is also removing vaccine mandates for children. Through digital community engagement in 40 countries, using AI-enabled social listening that identifies high-risk messages, UNICEF has identified 229 such messages that have reached 111 million people this year alone.”

Where is the accountability for those who produce health misinformation that harms the health of children, asked Benjamin Schreiber, a senior adviser to the
