Sharon Kay (Lindsey) Wright, of Lindsay, Oklahoma, was born April 3, 1948, to Calvert Russell “Bud” Lindsey and Ruth Lee (Goza) Lindsey. She was born and raised at Cox City, Oklahoma. Sharon was the fourth daughter out of five girls. Sharon attended Cox City school through 8th Grade. Then she attended Lindsay High School graduating as Salutatorian in 1966. While attending Lindsay High School, Sharon not only excelled in her scholastics but also Basketball. Her Senior year, Sharon was named “All State Basketball Player”. The qualifications for this selection were based on performance, leadership and impact on team success. She would display these traits as she worked in the broomcorn fields, played ball, furthered her education and would continue all through her adult life.
After high school, Sharon attended East Central College, graduating with a B.S. in Math Education and minor in Athletics. She taught Math and coached Junior High Girls basketball for 10 years.
Sharon married Milton Wayne Wright September 16, 1981, in Oklahoma City. They had three children: Jennifer, Angela, and Jonathan. Milton died in 1984 from injuries received in an automobile accident. Sharon was left as a single mom to raise three young children, one being 5½ weeks old. Sharon met this challenge and finished strong.
Sharon lived in Moore, Oklahoma, at the time of Milton’s death. She continued working at the Oklahoma City General Motors Assembly Plant. In 1992, Sharon decided she needed to be closer to family and moved back home to Lindsay. Family was always very important to Sharon. They brought her the greatest joy of her life. In 1999, Sharon’s youngest sister died. Sharon moved her niece, Hannah in with her family.
In 2006, the Oklahoma City GM plant closed its doors. She and daughter Angela moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Sharon worked at the GM Assembly Plant there until her retirement. During her time with GM, Sharon’s personality traits paid off. She worked hard, leading her colleagues, making team impacts through the many challenges that would be encountered in making technology changes in the new vehicles that came to the assembly line.
After Sharon’s retirement, she and Angela came back home to Lindsay. Together they became active members of the First Baptist Church. They enjoyed traveling to many places from Branson, Missouri, to Canada, with the FBC Senior Adults.
Sharon’s biggest life decision came when she was in the 5th grade. That’s when she made Jesus Christ Lord of her life. Her life displayed God’s love through her soft-spoken ways, her big heart, her way of giving without expecting anything in return and her willingness to meet any need. Many people have been touched by Sharon’s thoughtfulness.
God called Sharon home on May 6, 2026, at the age of 78. Sharon was a fighter. She fought the good fight through life’s trials and through the battle of ovarian cancer. Sharon’s basketball coach Charlie Heatly would tell her, “Finish strong, Sharon.” Sharon always did. Now she has finished strong in the 4th quarter of life.
Sharon is survived by her two daughters: Jennifer Taylor and husband Chris, and Angela Wright; her niece Hannah Medrano; her grandson, J.T. Adkins; sisters-in-law: Lue Wright, Bobbie McCaslin, Kathy McWhorter and husband Doyle; plus many nieces, nephews; great nieces, great nephews; great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
