Happy Birthday, Kansas and January Residents! 🎂

We are thrilled to recognize several residents who are celebrating January birthdays this year!

🔹Terrie Phillips
🔹Marilyn Strecker

Each of these wonderful individuals shares a birth month with the great state of Kansas which is turning 165 this year.

Marilyn, Carol, and Irene have each lived their entire lives in Kansas. The beauty of the Sunflower State has been the backdrop of their memories. Carl Kiltz came to Kansas in 1963. His service in the Army brought him here from California, and it has been his home ever since. Bill moved from Oregon to Kansas in 2015 and has enjoyed living here for the past 11 years. Lastly, Terrie is our most recent Kansan, having made Kansas her home just 6 years ago.

We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Kansas and to these incredible residents. It truly is wonderful to live in such a beautiful state and to know so many amazing people who help make it special. 🌻

Trooper Ben couldn’t have said it better...

We know schedules are often full, but visiting residents during the colder months is incredibly important. While we want everyone to stay safe and avoid traveling in difficult weather, taking time to visit a resident can make a meaningful difference and help lift their spirits throughout the winter season. We hope to see you soon! 💙

I expected a quick hug…

Instead, I watched a grandpa wrap his arms around his grandson and not let go.

I spend a lot of mornings at the retirement center visiting my father in-law. It is how I start my day. My son does not get there as often. Life is full. He is busy working, building, creating, and starting his own family.

Today, our timing all lined up.

What happened... 🥹

It was not my son holding on.
It was his grandpa.

He pulled his grandson in and held him.
Not briefly.
For a long, meaningful time.

No words.
No rush.
Just a grandfather holding his grandson like he was trying to store the feeling.

I stood there and watched.

If you have the chance to visit someone you love, take it.
