Judy Kay Chalfont (Singleton) of Fairfax, Virginia, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 20, 2026, while surrounded by the love of her family. She was born to William Singleton and Esther Maxine Stevenson Singleton of Linton, Indiana on October 15, 1941.

She graduated from Linton Stockton High School in 1959. She worked at the Dairy Queen and reluctantly left her cherished family and hometown to begin a new chapter in Arlington, Virginia, living with her uncle and aunt, William and Louise Higginbotham. There, she embarked on an exciting journey working at The White House during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, to the path that wrote her beautiful life story.

Having always prayed for her future husband and he for his future wife, Judy met the love of her life, Robert James Chalfont, on a blind date. As she descended the stairs to meet him, it was love at first sight. They were married on June 3, 1961, and together built a loving family, welcoming three children: Robert James, Jr., Judy Kay, and Joyce Kathleen.

She devoted her life to her family as a homemaker and was a mother not only to her own children, but to many who embraced her as a second mom. She cared so deeply for each of you, always pointing all to her faith in Jesus. While her children were in school, she volunteered as a room-mother, cared for children in their church’s Mother’s Day Out program, and assisted a friend with her catering business. As her children aged, she worked as an office manager at Cost Plus Furniture and Ingraham Planning Associates.

Her greatest legacy was her witness to The Lord and the way she lived out her faith – loving deeply, giving generously, sacrificing and serving others with joy and compassion. She called herself “blessed.”

She was adventurous, loved traveling and visiting new and old places, spending time with loved ones, doing and learning new things, laughing (especially her unforgettable laugh), and singing. Her life was a shining example of kindness, selflessness, and joy. Her family is forever grateful for her love, her example, and the legacy she leaves behind.

After a long and difficult battle with Lewy Body dementia, she is now pain-free and at peace. She recognized her immediate family until the very end, a gift of grace from God for which they are forever thankful. Her beautiful soul is deeply loved and will be missed every day until they are reunited once again in the sweet by and by.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Maxine Singleton; her brothers, Billy and wife, Evelyn Singleton and Danny Singleton; her brothers-in-law, Ralph Fulford, and Robert Bentheimer.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Robert James Chalfont; her children, Robert Chalfont Jr., Judy (William) Strang, and Joyce (Tracy) Chalfont-Hurst; her grandchildren, Ian McCarthy, Rileigh McCarthy, Finnen Chalfont-Hurst, Aelwen Chalfont-Hurst; her great grandchildren, Elliot Hercules, and Xavier Hercules; her brother, Eddie (Tina) Singleton; her sisters, Carol Fulford, Sandra Benthimer and Rhonda Tharp; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Meng Family Funeral Home, 89 C Street, NW, Linton, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 Noon.

Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton. Condolences and memories may be sent to the family online at www.andersonpoindexter.com.
