Lonnie J. Etmeier, 73, of Sandborn, Indiana, went to Heaven on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, with family by his side, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on September 27, 1952, in Linton, Indiana to Max William and Betty Jo (Flynn) Etmeier. Lonnie married his loving wife, Carol (Pieper) Etmeier on September 1, 1979.

Lonnie was a member of the Sandborn Baptist Church and attended Salem UCC. Lonnie worked at Huey Soil Service with 56 years of service. He enjoyed motorcycle riding his Goldwing, and weekend outings to enjoy music at wineries. Lonnie loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Family left to cherish the memories of Lonnie include: his wife, Carol Etmeier; son, Justin (Alissa) Etmeier of Evansville; daughter, Brooke (Ben) Evans of Bicknell; grandchildren, Emily, Audra, Lincoln and Ty; brother, Kevin (Glenda) Etmeier of Sandborn; nephews, Benjamin and Jacob.

Anthony E. ‘Tony’ Chamberlain, Sr., 80, of Petersburg, Indiana, passed from this life with family by his side, on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. He was born on March 20, 1945, in Linton, Indiana to Joseph F. and Margaret E. (Hudson) Chamberlain. Tony married the love of his life, Jean Marie (Davidson) Chamberlain on December 26, 1965.

Tony was a US Air Force Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He worked for Amax Coal Co. before moving to Texas working for Pabtex Export Co. Later, he moved back to Linton and retired from Gibson Coal Co. In his leisure time, Tony enjoyed playing golf, fishing and hunting.

Bert A. Astleford, 88, of Martinsville, Indiana, formerly of Linton, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Grand Valley Health and Rehab in Martinsville. He was born on June 10, 1937 in Big Rapids, Michigan to Lile Densmore and Regina Louise (Brown) Astleford.

Bert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a retired Electrical Engineer from Crane Naval Base. Bert’s favorite hobbies were the computer and Amateur radio. For many years, he was W8VEO and W9KWW. Most recently, he developed a love of taking pictures and labeling them with dates and other information.
Bert loved the quiet of the country, the sound of the whippoorwill and the hoot of an owl, wildflowers and fall foliage.

Family left to cherish the memories of Bert include: his wife, Annie L. (Powell) Astleford; four sons, James (Trish) Astleford of Sandborn, Terry (Lois) Astleford of Linton, Bret (Mary Ann) Astleford of San Antonio, TX and Bert (Valerie) Astleford of Crawfordsville; step-sons, Jon Bower of New York and Fred (Cindy) Bower of Martinsville; step-daughters, Peggy (Tim) Lester of Evansville, Susan (Doug) Perry, Cathy Finley, both of Martinsville and Andrea Newberry of Washington; sister, Mable Denniston of Hastings, MI; sister-in-law, Cathy Astleford of Michigan; first wife, Nancy (Snyder) Astleford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donald R. O’Haver, 87, of Linton, Indiana, passed away with family by his side, on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on April 14, 1938 in Illinois to Guy H. and Pearl Beatrice (Brown) O’Haver. Donald married the love of his life, Ruth E. (Finnegan) O’Haver on April 4, 1964.

Donald was a US Army Veteran and was a retired carpenter. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bears and Women’s soccer. Donald also enjoyed smoking his ci**rs and pipes, building birdhouses and working puzzles. He was so meticulous about his lawn.

Family left to cherish the memories of Donald include: one daughter, Kathleen Wyrick of Columbus, IN; two grandsons, Joshua (Kaliegh) Marsh and Benjamin Wyrick; great-grandchildren, Kaden Marsh and Rennie Murrell.

Cheryl Ann Alexander, 75, of Linton, Indiana, passed away with family by her side, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital in Evansville. She was born on September 10, 1950, in Linton to Cleon and Cora Jean (Burress) Bowman.

Cheryl was a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, Class of 1968. She worked as a hair stylist and then worked at Wal-Mart in Linton as a pharmacy tech before becoming an assistant manager. She was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Post #22 Ladies’ Auxiliary and VFW Post #7118 Ladies Auxiliary.

Family left to cherish the memories of Cheryl include: one son, Royce Alexander; one daughter, Jolie Alexander, both of Linton; four grandchildren, Zachery Alexander, William Edmonson III, Austin Honchell and Autumn Cora Ann Alexander, all of Linton; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Alexander, Karter Alexander, Bria Alexander, Hendrix Alexander and Layni Alexander.

Sharleen K. Brookshire, 78, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven, at Glenburn Nursing Home on Saturday, November 22, 2025. She was born on July 26, 1947, in Linton, Indiana to Robert E. and Joretta A. (Padgett) Dixon. Sharleen married the love of her life, Robert Lee ‘Bob’ Brookshire, on March 30, 1973.

Sharleen was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and Past Matron Order of Easter Star Chapter #198 in Newberry. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, going to grandkids sporting events, and watching IU basketball.

Family left to cherish the memory of Sharleen includes: one son, Jeff Brookshire of Loogootee, IN; one daughter, Jennifer (Ray) Murdock of Linton; grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, Emily, and Lilly; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Carson, Alex, Cooper, Xavier, Elijah, Rhett, and Ryker.

Ruby “Yvonne” Meng, 89, of Linton, Indiana, passed peacefully from this life, with family members by her side, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at her residence. She left this world to dwell in her eternal home with her Heavenly Father. Yvonne was born October 4, 1936, in Sullivan, Indiana, to Ralph E. and Lois Virginia (Hoesman) Williams. She married James W. Meng, Sr. on November 24, 1956, and they had three children, James W. Meng Jr. “Jimmy”, Marcy Stephens, and Tamra “Tammy” Meng.

Yvonne worked in Home Health Care for several years and had a genuine way of taking care of people, helping wherever she could. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Sullivan and loved to play her guitar for worship. Any time the family gathered for fellowship, out came the guitars, as almost every family member played an instrument. Her love for music was evident to all who heard her play and she was quite the musician. She was also a meticulous homemaker who adored her children. She was given the nickname, “Grandma Duby”, by her grandchildren who couldn’t pronounce Ruby. Above all, Yvonne loved the Lord whole-heartedly and as a child, she attended church with her grandmother. She led her own parents to the Lord and thus, her mission began. She was faithful to God and her church and pursued spreading the message of salvation throughout her life. She left this message to all her children and grandchildren, “Love you until we meet again in Heaven”.

Family left to cherish memories of Yvonne include her son, James W. (Bette) Meng of Linton, daughters: Marcy L. (Terry) Stephens of Vincennes, Tamra S. (Cindy) Meng of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Jenna (Nathan) Brown, Bryant Meng, Brock and Kelsey Stephens, and great granddaughters: Neely and Corinna Brown, sisters: LaDona Whited of Laurinburg, NC and Karon Snyder of Terre Haute; and special friend and caregiver, Sharon Moore. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, James Meng, the father of her children, and a sister, Janet Monk.

Funeral services to honor and share Yvonne’s life will be on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton, with Pastor Randy Easton officiating. Yvonne will be laid to rest in the Merom Cemetery, Merom, IN.

She was born on March 14, 1929, in Martin, Tennessee to Monty and Mary (Osborn) Mann. Doris married the love of her life, Beryl Bledsoe II, on July 22, 1953.

Doris attended Sandborn Christian Church. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and did maintenance work for many years.

Family left to cherish the memory of Doris includes: one son, Byron Bledsoe of Detroit, MI; six daughters, Marla Caradea of Freelandville, Brenda Lash and Rebecca (Kevin) Cook of Sandborn, IN, Doris (Garry) Snover of Linden, TN, Janet (Bryan) Bledsoe of Warren, MI and Luann (Jef) Speer of Spencer, IN: seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Dora D. Manuel, 73, of Sullivan, Indiana, passed away with family by her side, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born on November 10, 1951 in Sullivan to Robert Omar and Nancy J. (Bratcher) Ruff. Dora married her loving husband, James E. Manuel on September 30, 1972.

Dora worked in housekeeping at Miller’s Merry Manor, retiring with several years of service. She enjoyed the outdoors, walking, hunting mushrooms, camping and fishing. Dora especially loved time spent with her grandkids.

Bert F. Kearns, 91, of Dugger, Indiana, passed away with his loving wife by his side, on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Sullivan, Indiana. He was born on June 16, 1934 in Richmond, Kentucky to Raymond and Zelpha (Denham) Kearns. Bert married Bonnie J. (Bradfield) Kearns on October 27, 1954.

Bert made his career in the Air Force until 1973, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He proudly served his country in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Bert was a member of the Methodist Church of Doylesville, KY, American Legion Post #707 in Indianapolis, VFW Post #7098 in Richmond, KY, Loyal Order of Moose in Linton and Society of Automotive Engineers. He was an Educator at Lincoln Technical Institute, retiring in 2010.

Family left to cherish the memory of Bert includes: his wife, Bonnie Kearns; one son, Chris (Cimberli) Kearns of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan and Lucas Kearns; two brothers, Bernie Kearns of Kentucky and Randall Kearns of Florida.

Barbara Jane “Barb” Briggs, 92, a devoted and loyal friend known for her adventurous spirit and dedication to her work, passed away peacefully with close friends by her side in Carmel, Indiana, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Born on July 20, 1933, in Syracuse, New York, Barb moved to Linton, Indiana, at the age of one, where she was raised and lived until graduating from Linton-Stockton High School in 1950. She then enrolled at Stephen’s College for one year, after which she attended Indiana University (IU), earning a degree in Office Management, which launched her professional career.

Barb dedicated her professional life to service and excellence. She spent 11 and a half years working for the Ice Miller law firm before transitioning to a long and distinguished career with the federal court. For 36 years, she served as an Executive Assistant to Federal District Court Judge Dillin. Barb's organizational skills and unwavering commitment were essential in supporting Judge Dillin through his most significant cases, including the landmark Indianapolis Public Schools desegregation rulings, which shaped the city's history.

Outside of her professional life, Barb had an immense passion for travel. She explored Europe and Scandinavia, with Ireland and Florence, Italy, holding special places in her heart. She maintained deep and lasting friendships with her closest and dearest friends: Kecia Nalls, Anne Perry, Anne Williams, Pat Martz, Carol Clements, and Kathy & Carolea Walters.

Barb is survived by Carolyn Buchmann and her children, Caron and Craig (Jana); Elisa Blocker and her son; and Kurt Robertson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Victor Briggs; her mother, Millie Hamilton Briggs; her beloved Auntie Helen (her father's sister); her Aunt Mary (Millie's sister, one of "the Hamilton girls"); Carolyn's husband, Carl; and her first cousin, Sue and Kause Robertson.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, where she will be reunited with her family at a local plot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WFYI or WIPB, or to any animal rescue organization of your choice, reflecting her love for animals and public broadcasting.
