Happy holidays from a very merry five month old!✨🎄✨

We are slowly getting the hang of this parenting thing. These past months have been so challenging, but I’m finally starting to tread water again. This new love is big and bright, but I’ll never forget the darkness and shadows that came along with it.

I’ve been counting down the days until Christmas, looking forward to this time of year as a light at the end of the tunnel. I shouldn’t have been surprised to find the light was in your smile all along.

Eight weeks old. So many parents say time flies but these eight weeks easily feel like eighteen. I’m not sure I expected motherhood to feel this lonely.

But your smiles and snuggles and wacky sleeping noises keep me going. I’m trying to soak it all in and yet it’s hard to not look forward to a time when you don’t sleep on me for hours a day. Despite the aching back, sleep deprivation, and sometimes overwhelming isolation I would never not choose this. I will always choose you.

Welcome to the world Penelope Lee Anne Gillen! One week ago today you defied all my expectations and plans by coming two weeks late, enduring a 48 hour labor with me, and being the tiniest little doppelgänger of your dad that I can imagine.
As long as you are happy, healthy, and kind I hope you continue to tear down everyone’s expectations of you and what you’re here to do in this life. It’s your world and I’m so excited and honored to watch you take it by storm.

Well here we are, 40 weeks. Time has flown by and I’ve been pregnant forever. I’m scared and I’m so, so ready. I want her to stay safely inside me forever and I want to meet her more than anything. How can so many opposing things be true at the same time? I suppose this is where the challenge of parenthood begins. The only thing I know is that we’ll figure it out together.

38 weeks along and we’re still moving! A lot slower and less dynamically, but here we are. It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end. I’m feeling pretty solid, physically. Mentally and emotionally… it depends on the day! 😅
