The MCGS research center is located inside the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center. Our library is free to those interested in genealogy and history. There are hundreds of books pertaining to Montgomery County, other counties within the State of IL and other states in the USA. We have 2 computers for patron use containing many research tools. Individual family histories have been donated by family researchers and are available for use.

Over our 48-years, MCGS has exchanged genealogical society quarterlies with many other societies in state and out of state. During the last couple of years, we have scanned all the individual Illinois society quarterlies, and they are on one of our patron computers. Due to space issues, we have disposed of most of the Illinois county quarterlies and several North Carolina quarterlies. We now have out-of-state quarterlies which are up for grabs. If you are interested, please come to the MCGS research center at the Litchfield Museum before November 17 and take your pick for a small donation. After that date, they will be destroyed. MCGS is open Wednesday thru Saturday 10 to 4. We have quarterlies from St Louis, IA, SC, ME, MO, OR, SD, KY, TX-Bexar Co, TX-Montgomery Co, NC-Caldwell Co, and IL-St Clair Co.

NEED HELP finding where this tombstone should be located. It was found in Troy IL, and it is believed it came from Montgomery Co. [I have a better picture on my phone; but, it is being contrary and does not want to move!, Sorry] The stone is for Inez Barcie McDavid 1880-1881. She was the daughter of Rev William John McDavid and Barcie Sylvana Foster McDavid. Her siblings were: Anna Jane w/o Robert L Kelly, John T McDavid, Eva w/o Dr Rhodes, Linda w/o Owen Merriweather, J Russell McDavid, William Foster McDavid, and Joel F McDavid. Both parents are buried in the Irving Cemetery; however, at the time of Inez's death they lived in East Fork Twp. Any help would be appreciated. They would like to return the stone to the burial place if at all possible. Thanks!
