I often feel like what I am doing in the world isn’t enough.
And honestly it’s not; yet…
But I shared our mission with someone yesterday in an email and it wasn’t until I was typing out as much as I could think of at the time I realized that we’re doing a bunch and many people may not even be aware of the things we do, there’s more I realized I’ve missed or forgotten:
Here’s the blurb:
“Currently we are hosting horseback riding events, men’s Bible studies, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, gold panning and vehicle repair and maintenance events designed to build a sense of belonging while giving a lasting memory and new skill set to a veteran or first responder.
I also personally attend court hearings for my peer veterans/first responders who may be facing some darker days and need someone to believe in them even while they may not believe in themselves.
Beyond that, if a peer is in need of professional mental health services we help connect them to a personally vetted provider who is culturally competent and actually cares about our veterans and first responders. We also have a partnership with a mental health private practice who goes beyond that and hired a nurse practitioner who does med management.
Many services are covered by insurance or care in the community partnerships but the ones that aren’t OR during the approval period for care in the community stuff we often cover the costs of their care to ensure they’re seen rapidly.
The fastest time so far was 1:07, one hour and seven minutes from the time the email was sent to my inbox to the time I had them greenlit to be onboarded with a partnered private practice.
That’s not something that happens on accident, it’s intentionally streamlined so that the individual can be seen within the time they’re actually hurting and not months later like the VA process (if the crisis hasn’t taken their lives by the time the Va gets them in)”
