Ok. Georgians.
Y'all have a run-off election coming up in June and a general election in November.
The primaries were a dress rehearsal.
😶
Moving forward...
I need y'all to research the candidates and know who y'all are putting in public office.
Know their stances on major issues that impact you AND your personal legacy.
(Let's get deep--where do you see your descendants 2,3,...8 generations from now?)
Your LIFE is--and will--be impacted.
Stop 👏🏿 playing👏🏿.

I truly love my online and in-person community.
Thanks for checking in on me.
No--I am not getting fed up with medicine (but many of you all know I am frustrated with bureaucratic change in medicine I have seen over past decade and a half, usually not favorable to patient care).
Burned out? Not feeling like that this week--and I have had weeks...but you do get quickly humbled when reminded--because, as a woman of faith, you KNOW this--death is the one thing promised to us all.
So it felt good to go home after work, get all gussied up, and attend the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County gala with my husband. 🥰

Family Medicine Physician woes.
When you are trained womb to tomb (but no longer practice womb🫠) and everything in between.
You're in this thing 15 years and your patients "grow with you."
And, consequently, you are getting a whole lot of "tomb" lately.
And you are collecting obituaries ❤️ and considering just keeping a stack of sympathy cards in your drawer at work.
On standby. For the next time.
Because there will be one.
😭
I have definitely reached a different phase in my practice of medicine.
Happy Friday, y'all.
😔🙏🏾🤲🏾📿

Is informed consent (what to expect from the medication, how it works, side effects, how the patient will feel on the medication, etc.) important? Yes!
Can people experience withdrawal and side effects from antidepressants? Absolutely!
Are antidepressants beneficial? Sure are!
Do social determinants of health impact the ability to implement holistic/nonphamacologic treatments? Absolutely!
There is much more than limiting "overprescribing" of psychiatric medications at play here. And a "holistic" approach is needed to address those [social determinants of health] issues, too. 🙃😉

JLD has been a fabulous organization in which I have grown, made lifelong connections, and have had a heck of a lot of fun doing so!
Starting in Fall 2026, I will transition to Sustianer status and look forward to recruiting women who may be interested in taking the torch.
As I close out my final year as an Active member (on the Recruitment Committee, nonetheless), please attend our Open House on May 2! You do NOT have to reside in DeKalb County to be a member.

See y'all May 2! 🥰

Come learn what it means to make a difference in our community 💙

Join the Junior League of DeKalb for our Open House! Meet inspiring women, discover our impact, and find out how you can get involved in meaningful service and leadership opportunities. Whether you’re passionate about volunteering, leadership development, or building lifelong connections, there’s a place for you here!

I understand that healing doesn’t just happen in exam rooms—it happens on trails, under open skies, and in the quiet moments in the outdoors.
I encourage my patients--and anyone who will listen--to get outside; breathe full, deep, breaths (try not to inhale too much pollen!); move intentionally; and reconnect—with nature and with themselves.
It ain't always just about a prescription; the outdoors can be some powerful medicine.
As a pulled up to the tank to fill my hybrid SUV with gas on the way to work this morning, I found myself grateful to be driving a hybrid and doing my part (albeit, small) in a time where both gas prices and misinformation run high.
(Did I really go there?🙃😂)
Science still matters.
Prevention still matters.
Our planet still matters.
I will do my part to continue to care for it like I care for my patients—with intention, advocacy, and love. 🌎💚

Thank you again. You know who you are.

80+ yo patient: Dr. Echols--I know I say this every time I see you, but I LOVE those boots. You have them in a reddish color too, don't you?

Me: You really pay attention! Yes, I do.

80+ yo patient: Hm. I want a pair. Where can I get them?

Me: There is a store at .

80+ yo patient: 😂 I am not driving all the way to Buckhead. Can I get them online?

Me: You sure can! And heads up--they may run a bit large.

80+ yo patient: Ok...ok! That's good to know! Thanks, doc!
Yep, they are well-loved, and my grandfather would've loved to give them a good polish. 🫠🙃😂❤️
Fun fact. My first job in high school was as a exhibit intern at the in Berkeley. My first paycheck went toward Doc Marten boots because my mama said she wasn't buying them. 🥰
