What is Outpatient Therapy? People often identify outpatient therapy and mental health counseling with sitting on a couch in a sterile office setting, and sharing their most private thoughts with a stranger. It makes sense that people often resist seeking treatment they may want or need. Therapy should be a collaborative process where the therapist and the individual work together to establish and achieve goals. The therapist’s responsibility is to help the individual cope with the stressful and problematic life events we all experience.
