December closed out the year as a steady, demanding month for Warwick Community Ambulance, with our crews dispatched to 555 calls for service across the region, compared to 499 in December of '24. That's about an 11% increase in dispatched volume versus last year.
The majority of our work remained right here at home, with 183 calls in Lititz Borough and 169 in Warwick Township, followed by significant activity in Manheim Township, Elizabeth Township, Penn Township, and Clay Township. We also provided assistance to surrounding municipalities, including Manheim Borough, Rapho Township, East Hempfield Township, and Lancaster City. We occasionally responded into Lebanon and Berks Counties, reflecting the interconnected nature of the EMS system we operate in every day.
The types of calls we responded to tell the real story of December. Medical emergencies accounted for the bulk of our work, led by 105 sick-person calls and 95 fall-related injuries, especially common during the winter months. Our teams also managed a high number of breathing problems and chest pain emergencies, along with strokes, seizures, hemorrhages, vehicle accidents, and patients found unconscious.
When transport was needed, our crews most frequently delivered patients to LGH Penn Medicine and UPMC Lititz, with additional transports to Ephrata WellSpan, Lancaster Penn State, and Hershey Penn State.
As we move into a new year, December serves as a clear reminder of why a ready, well-staffed, and well-equipped EMS system matters. Thank you for your continued support of the men and women who show up for these calls every day, no matter the weather or the hour.
