The current ambulance subscription period runs through June. It is not too late to join right now and potentially save hundreds of dollars if you ever need an ambulance ride. Your subscription also helps support our ability to stay staffed, equipped, and ready to respond for the community.

Can you help?

We are looking for a trailer similar to the one shown in the photo. Specifically, an enclosed tandem axle trailer with side access that can be configured as a command post and patient treatment area for special events such as the Fourth of July fireworks and the Lititz Craft Show.

Until recently, we were able to use a regional EMS operations trailer, but that resource is no longer available. To continue supporting these events safely and effectively, we now need to source and outfit our own trailer.

This is an unplanned expense and not something we can cover within our current budget, so we are turning to our community for help. If you have a connection to a trailer dealer, know of a trailer that could be donated, or would like to contribute toward this project, we would appreciate hearing from you. This trailer will be used throughout the year and will be an important piece of equipment in supporting patient care and public safety at community events.

December closed out the year as a steady, demanding month for Warwick Community Ambulance, with our crews dispatched to 555 calls for service across the region, compared to 499 in December of '24. That's about an 11% increase in dispatched volume versus last year.

The majority of our work remained right here at home, with 183 calls in Lititz Borough and 169 in Warwick Township, followed by significant activity in Manheim Township, Elizabeth Township, Penn Township, and Clay Township. We also provided assistance to surrounding municipalities, including Manheim Borough, Rapho Township, East Hempfield Township, and Lancaster City. We occasionally responded into Lebanon and Berks Counties, reflecting the interconnected nature of the EMS system we operate in every day.

The types of calls we responded to tell the real story of December. Medical emergencies accounted for the bulk of our work, led by 105 sick-person calls and 95 fall-related injuries, especially common during the winter months. Our teams also managed a high number of breathing problems and chest pain emergencies, along with strokes, seizures, hemorrhages, vehicle accidents, and patients found unconscious.

When transport was needed, our crews most frequently delivered patients to LGH Penn Medicine and UPMC Lititz, with additional transports to Ephrata WellSpan, Lancaster Penn State, and Hershey Penn State.

As we move into a new year, December serves as a clear reminder of why a ready, well-staffed, and well-equipped EMS system matters. Thank you for your continued support of the men and women who show up for these calls every day, no matter the weather or the hour.

A note from Chief Rob Walker:

As we wrap up the year, I want to highlight some of the progress and additions at Warwick Community Ambulance and thank the community we serve.

This year, we welcomed Colleen Bruckno as our full-time Pediatric Safety Specialist and Outreach Coordinator. Colleen stepped into this role at the end of June, with her first class held on July 1. From July through the end of the year, she supported 27 community events, completed 44 car seat checks, and helped deliver 168 CPR certifications. Colleen personally taught 125 CPR students, with Makayla Arnold teaching 30, Scott Myers teaching 7, and Adam Marden teaching 6. That represents hundreds of community members better prepared to act in an emergency.

Education remained a major focus. Lieutenant Scott Myers led the launch of our EMS education institute and oversaw our first classes, resulting in 6 new EMTs and AEMTs joining our team. Planning is already underway for additional EMR, EMT, and AEMT classes in 2026 as we continue to invest in workforce development and long-term service sustainability.

On the clinical side, we launched a sepsis pilot program to improve early identification and treatment in the field. We also added VOCSN critical care ventilators to our paramedic loadout, made possible in part through a grant from The UPMC Foundation. These additions allow us to better care for complex and critically ill patients.

Operationally, Zac Hartmann was promoted to Deputy Chief of Operations, strengthening leadership and day-to-day oversight. We also placed a new 2025 Ford E450 Braun remount ambulance into service, replacing the oldest unit in our fleet and improving reliability for our crews and patients.

Our bike team and special operations team stayed busy throughout the year, providing coverage at complex and demanding events like the three-day Susquehanna Smash Volleyball Tournament, the Rotary Club of Lititz Craft Show, and the Lititz Springs Park Fourth of July celebration. These teams continue to represent Warwick EMS with professionalism and excellent patient care in challenging environments.

We will have complete year-end call volume data available in the next few days and will share it as we always do. Transparency matters to us, and we want our municipal partners and the community to understand the work we do and the demand for our services.

Looking ahead, 2026 will mark 70 years of service for Warwick EMS. We are proud of that history and excited about the work ahead. Thank you to our crews, our partners, and our community for your trust and support. The progress we made this year was made possible by dedicated people doing hard work every day. We appreciate you and look forward to a strong year ahead.

Thanks again,

Rob

This morning, providers from several agencies, including many from Warwick EMS, attended the Pediatric Resuscitation Course led by CHOPโ€™s ExPERT team. This hands on course focused on high risk, low frequency pediatric emergencies, emphasizing rapid assessment, airway management, team communication, and evidence based resuscitation strategies. The training provided practical skills and reinforced best practices to help crews deliver confident, coordinated care when treating critically ill or injured children.

This ambulance is designated as โ€œIntermediate 2-31.โ€ Intermediate units are staffed with an Advanced EMT.

But what exactly does that mean?

An Advanced EMT sits between an EMT and a paramedic. An AEMT can start IVs, administer IV fluids and a limited but very meaningful list of medications, manage more advanced airways than an EMT, and perform more in depth patient assessments. This allows them to treat many patients who would otherwise require a paramedic, improving response times and keeping paramedics available for the most critical calls.

We rely on our AEMTs to keep our system running at the highest level of efficiency and deliver exceptional care.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Warwick Community Ambulance.

Today, some of our crews are on duty, answering calls and caring for our community, while others are home spending the day with their families. We are grateful for every one of them.

We also want to wish a Merry Christmas to our partners in fire and police, our 911 dispatchers, and the hospital staff who continue to work around the clock. We are thankful to stand alongside you.

And to our community, thank you for your continued support and trust. We are honored to serve you today and every day. Stay safe and enjoy the holiday.
