As breast cancer awareness month comes to a close, we want to share our appreciation for a benefit that was held earlier this month at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Services Program of the Central Region (CSP).

The benefit was called the BREAST of Burlesque and Drag: A Benefit for Breast Cancer Awareness. $600 was raised to help those in need access screenings and diagnostic services, completely free of charge.

Each year, approximately 1,500 men and 650 women in New York are diagnosed with liver cancer, according to the State Department of Health. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, so it's equally important that we each take care of ours. The liver stores nutrients, aids in digestion, and helps process the foods we eat.

You can reduce your risk of liver cancer by:
- Not smoking (or quitting if you currently do)
- Limiting alcohol use
- Getting vaccinated against hepatitis B
- Getting tested for hepatitis C and receiving medical care if you have it

Lucille Lee, MD, has joined Bassett Healthcare Network as an Attending Physician with Radiation Oncology at Bassett Medical Center and Bassett Cancer Institute at FoxCare. Please join us in welcoming her to Bassett!

Dr. Lee earned her medical degree from Rutgers University – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ. Her residency took place at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. She is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Our physical therapy caregivers provide a variety of services to our patients and nursing home residents, including those who are post-surgery, recovering from an injury or treatment, or dealing with a condition that impacts their mobility, balance, or coordination. They help people regain function, reduce pain, and potentially prevent future injuries.

We are very proud to share that Bassett Research Institute recently received an important grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Rural IMPACT for Population Health Improvement will directly impact communities in Chenango, Madison, Herkimer and Delaware Counties. If successful, in the long run the project could benefit even more rural health initiatives in years to come. Read more here!

The Bassett Research Institute’s Center for Rural Community Health has been approved for a multi-year grant to study improving rural access to preventive services.

Welcome to Bassett, Bailey O’Donnell, MD! We’re pleased to share that Dr. O’Donnell has joined Bassett Healthcare Network as a Pediatric & Adult Medicine Hospitalist at Bassett Medical Center.

Dr. O’Donnell completed her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine in Syracuse, NY. Her residency training took place at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME.

Dental Hygiene Month is coming to an end, so we are sharing a message of gratitude for our dental hygienists! They work at our family dentistry locations in Oneonta, Delhi, and Hamilton as well as our school-based health centers across the region.

Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine gums for signs of gingivitis, and perform other preventive dental services. They play a key role in keeping smiles healthy! We appreciate everything they do!
