The entertainment for the August meeting of the Metropolitan Rail Club will be a show created by Rich Polk. Since he met John Kirk in 2018, Rich has joined that resident of South Australia on each of his visits to the United States, railfanning with him for a full day during each visit. Although these trips were paused as a result of the COVID pandemic, John made an extended visit this summer, when Rich was fortunate to spend two full days 'fanning with him and others. The show will document a total of five days of railfan activities: along CSX's River Line in the Hudson River valley in 2018, 2019, and this year. Except for the 2018 day, member John Del Vecchio was with them on these days. Additionally, this year Rich also joined John Kirk, Rich Wisneski, and Al Tillotson to railfan along the NS in Cresson, Lilly, Horseshoe Curve, and Gallitzin, PA. As he travelled out to the Altoona area, Rich also did some solo railfanning along the way between Marysville and Tyrone, PA, and will share photos from that day as well.
Friday, August 25, 2023, 7:30pm at St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Avenue, Little Falls, NJ. Visitors are welcome.

Our next meeting will be on Friday, May 26, at 7:30 pm, St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Ave., Little Falls.
Entertainment will be Richard Polk's presentation of his earliest photographic work--mostly black and white photos of L&N, C&O, GM&O, IC and SR subjects in the late 1960's. Every one of those flags has fallen, and, of course, Amtrak is doing its version of the City of New Orleans, but not even trying to replicate The Pan American, The City of Miami, The Royal Palm and others--all of which will be represented in this show.

We have something out of the ordinary for April's meeting. Member Tom Burns will be hosting two visiting friends from across the pond, both of whom are retired locomotive "drivers," as they refer to engineers in Great Britain. These "blokes" have agreed to talk about their lengthy railway careers to our club. Tom has been putting together short YouTube videos to project behind our speakers so we parochial colonists can better appreciate what they're talking about when they refer to various locomotive classes.
During Brin's entire career, he worked out of London's Waterloo Station. Simon, on the contrary, worked out of Reading, Old Oak, St. Pancras, Waterloo, Nottingham, Peterborough, and Kings Cross.
Our guests will be happy to answer questions, so this is your opportunity to satisfy your curiosity regarding wagons, guards, Up and Down trains, what it's like to run a train from the "wrong" side of the cab, and countless other peculiarities of English railroading.
Mark your calendars: Friday, April 28, 2023, 7:30pm, St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Avenue, Little Falls, NJ (across from the NJTransit train station).

Entertainment for the next meeting of the MRC will be provided by our guest, Bob Bahrs. Bob will present a show on the Ontario Northland. With the massive CP and CN systems dominating the province, I suspect too few railfans made the time while in Ontario to check out the ON, with its spiffy color scheme and FP7s on passenger trains. This will be our chance to see what we missed. Friday, September 30, 2022 beginning at 7:30pm at the St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Avenue, Little Falls, NJ (across from the NJTransit train station).

04/20/2022

Member John Del Vecchio will provide the entertainment for this month's meeting, featuring what he did with his camera during 2021, including his trip in search of the Kansas City Southern. Don't expect to see too many dirty NS Dash-9's in this program!
7:30pm, Friday, April 29, 2022, St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Blvd, Little Falls, NJ (across from the NJTransit train station).

03/20/2022

Our entertainment at the March meeting will be provided by member Tom Scheffer, his annual recounting of his travels over the past year, pushed backward one month as a result of January's meeting being cancelled due to snow. As a result of the flu from China, this month's program will cover two years, rather than one, although Tom's travel was curtailed to some extent by the virus. Topics will include:
NJ Transit (incl. special units)
Amtrak
Norfolk Southern Altoona, Bound Brook, Virginia, West Virginia
CSX in Maryland and West Virginia
Union Pacific in Utah and Wyoming
BNSF in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado
RTD Denver—commuter and light rail
Some misc. pictures of Morristown & Erie, Reading Blue Mountain and Northern, and Lackawaxen & Stourbridge

Tom still shoots with film, adding an extra dimension to the informative and well-composed images that comprise his programs.

Friday, 3/25/22 7:30pm St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Blvd., Little Falls, NJ (across from the NJTransit train station). Guests are welcome.

01/28/2022

The January 2022 meeting is canceled. The program on Railroads in the United Kingdom in 1984 is postponed to February 25.

11/23/2021

The November meeting of the Metropolitan Rail Club will be held on Black Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, at 7:30pm at St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Blvd., Little Falls, NJ (across from the NJTransit train station). The program will be Part 2 of Rich Polk's transcontinental trip which followed Route 66 from Chicago to California. Part 2 includes Rich's day at Cajon Pass and Victorville and the eastbound return to New Jersey including Nashville's Music City Star commuter service and Norfolk Southern on ex-N&W and Southern Rwy lines in Virginia.

Our next meeting is Friday, 10/29/21. Richard Polk drove across the USA last month, following Route 66 and photographing trains when he could. He will present Part I of a program on this trip, following him as far as Kingman, AZ. Part II will be presented in November.
7:30pm St. Agnes Episcopal Church, 65 Union Blvd, Little Falls, NJ, across from the NJT train station.

09/24/2021
