So how do you actually decide what stays and what goes?
Labels can be confusing. Marketing sounds convincing. And unless you’re a chemist, ingredient lists aren’t exactly light reading.
One tool I still like using is the Think Dirty app. It’s available on iPhone and Android and makes things simple.
It was developed in connection with data from the Environmental Working Group, which researches ingredient safety in personal care and household products.
Here’s how it works:
You download the app, scan a barcode (or type in a product name), and it gives you a rating. It also breaks down the ingredients so you can see why something scored the way it did. Sometimes the results are surprising.
I challenge you to scan something from under your sink or in your bathroom today. Just out of curiosity.
Drop the product name in the comments and tell me the rating it got. I’m curious what you find.
