Spondylosis is an age-related condition caused by degeneration of the spine’s bones, discs, and joints. It can occur at any level of the spine and is often linked to chronic pain.
Over time, the natural wear and tear of aging may lead to bone spurs (a form of osteoarthritis). As degeneration worsens, spinal discs can herniate or bulge, putting pressure on nearby nerves.
In more advanced cases, spondylosis may progress to spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal that compresses the spinal cord. Symptoms may include:
• Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet.
• Loss of coordination or difficulty walking.
• In severe cases, loss of bladder or bowel control and reduced motor function.
