The Department of Radiation Oncology is a department of the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. We are the leading provider of radiation therapy services in Arkansas and are dedicated to research and to the education and training of the next generation of experts in our field. partment is housed in a state-of-the art facility at the UAMS campus. We service not only the UAMS Medical Center, but also Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Radiation Oncology Center is outfitted with cutting edge technology which includes state-of-the art Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, ACCURAY Tomotherapy HDA, Brainlab Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Nucletron intracavitary/interstitial Brachytherapy and spatially fractionated GRID radiotherapy. Intensity Modulation Radiation Therapy was first introduced in the state of Arkansas by our faculty. Image guided radiotherapy provides added value in localizing the target with very high accuracy. The Department of Radiation Oncology has a very active clinical, teaching, and research program. Our cutting edge technology, combined with our research efforts and in house development has allowed us to provide aggressive and innovative treatment options to our patients. Our training programs include a residency in Medical Physics, which enables us to train new scientists to the latest and most modern techniques in the fight against cancer.
