Friends of Oakland and Fraternal Historic Cemetery in Little Rock has secured a Grant from the Arkansas Black History Commission for Preservation of Fraternal Cemetery's African American History and Heritage

In 1888, African American fraternal orders petitioned the city for land at Oakland Cemetery for members’ burial space. That site, now Fraternal Cemetery, needs refurbishment. It is home to burials of prominent African American historical figures of Little Rock, and hundreds of souls who were members of historic Black fraternal organizations, including Mosaic Templars and Knights and Ladies of Tabor.

There are over 150 markers with Fraternal organization emblems, many damaged, and over 400 cemetery markers that need care.
Goal is to return the identity and integrity to these memorial markers, thus honoring those souls in historic Fraternal Cemetery
Friends of Oakland and Fraternal Historic Cemetery asks the community for help in carrying out the grant.
