Congratulations to Calvin Monroe, patient ambassador at the Infirmary, on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Calvin was nominated by the family of a patient who had to stay with us for a couple of months. The family was grateful Calvin remembered them and greeted them with purpose every day they visited. It made them feel loved and cared for. Thank you, Calvin!

Working outside in the summer heat 🥵? It’s critical that you stay hydrated to reduce your risk of dangerous heat-related illnesses. Follow OSHA’s guidelines:

For shorter jobs (less than two hours), drink one 8-ounce cup of water every 20 minutes. For longer jobs (more than two hours), drink cool water and drinks that contain electrolytes, such as sports drinks. These will help you replace some of your body’s natural salts and electrolytes that you lose when you sweat.

She was nominated by a patient in the ED who said Ashley's professionalism and compassion put her at ease in a scary moment. The nomination says Ashley listened not just to the details, but also to the emotional needs of the patient. Congratulations, Ashley!

We have a special Service Hero recognition today in John Selph, RN, who has retired from CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. John had already retired in 2020, but cut his retirement short to return and serve during the COVID-19 pandemic. John ended up staying another five years, helping teach the next generation of clinical staff at the SICU in Hot Springs. Thank you, John, for your years of service and for coming back when your community needed you most.

Thank you to the Hot Springs Village WGA 18-Hole League for their generous $15,000 donation to the CHI St. Vincent Foundation! This comes after the actual charity golf tournament was rained out, but participants stayed to raise money through silent auctions and raffle giveaways. We can't thank the HSV WGA 18-Hole League enough for their support! The donation will be used to purchase immobilizing equipment for radiation treatments at the cancer center at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

Our Pet of St. Vincent this week is Della! Della is a Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier and Poodle mix owned by Caitlin Thrash, BSN, RN, of St. Vincent Infirmary! Della loves to play fetch, chew on toys, and do excavation (aka digging). She's a beautiful dog who always brings joy!

Congratulations to surgeon Dr. Zachary Larrimer on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Dr. Larrimer was nominated by a patient who was in the hospital for the first time in her life. She didn't know what to ask, so her neighbor wrote down a few pages of questions. Dr. Larrimer read every question back to her out loud, answered them, and then hand-wrote the answers on the paper. The patient couldn't believe the level of care she received from a surgeon! Thank you, Dr. Larrimer, for taking the time to show humankindness to your patients.
