The Measles are here in Central Arkansas

Yes, the ADH has confirmed a case in Saline and Faulkner county.

For our patients, if you think you have symptoms of measles, or think you may have been exposed to someone with measles, please call our clinic FIRST. We will advise you of next steps to evaluate you, but please do not come inside the building. We want to care and provide for you but we also want to protect ALL of our patients. Measles is a highly infectious illness, and you can contract it in a room where a patient with measles has been for up to TWO HOURS after that person leaves. So please, when you call, clearly state that you have concerns about measles so we can help you appropriately, and keep everyone safe.

The MMR vaccine is the safest and most effective way to prevent becoming infected. I have had multiple families asking to get their child’s first MMR vaccine prior to their first birthday, and up to this point I have said to wait until measles is here in the community. And now it is. So if your child is over six months old and you would like to go ahead and receive your MMR vaccine, please call us ASAP and we will get you in.

Hands foot and mouth disease!
I call it hands foot mouth and diaper disease, as it can cause pretty bad diaper rash... As is the case for this sweet boy.
It is caused by a virus; which means although it will cause a lot of suffering and pain, it will clear up on its own
NSAIDs (Motrin/Ibuprofen) once again come in for the rescue and should be given to help the suffering
The severity of the rash varies from one to another; kids with eczema tend to have significant rashes and should use their steroid ointments
Use your usual diaper ointment for the diaper rash

Bug bites!!!
Even spider bites are treated based on how much of an effect the bites cause on the person. ..this means the symptoms are usually what need to be treated. Often, leaving the area alone ...apart from applying moisturizer such as Vaseline...is your best bet. Of course watch to make sure no wounds/infections form. Messing with the skin too much can lead to irritation, scratching, which cause infections and therefore problems.
These pictures show self resolution of pretty bad mosquitoe bites; 10 days apart.
Usually no scars or skin changes are left behind; even with no intervention

Chia Pudding:
Tested in my home and absolutely loved!

Blended berries
Oat milk - about 1/2 cup
2 TBS chia seeds
+/- honey
Refrigerate about 1hr before serving
