📖 Anthropometric Changes in Female Collegiate Athletes Apparent Within 4 Weeks of a Yoga Intervention

This is the first study investigating the effect of yoga on body composition in collegiate athletes. Division 1 female athletes (ages 18–22) competing in track and field or cross-country were enrolled. Baseline body composition was measured with a Fit3D scanner, recording body fat %, waist and hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio.

Athletes were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=7) or a control group (n=7). The experimental group participated in 60-minute guided yoga sessions twice per week. After 4 weeks, both groups repeated the body composition testing. Results found that yoga may have a protective effect against adverse changes in adiposity.

🌏 Add Your Voice to a Global Yoga Research Study!

A team led by Jonathan Rosenthal, a neurologist and yoga researcher in New York City, together with Neha Gothe, PhD, from Northeastern University, is inviting yoga practitioners everywhere to share their experiences. The International Yoga Questionnaire explores the many ways people practice yoga around the world, including potential benefits and risks.

We encourage you to add your voice and, if you’d like, invite your clients to do the same so this research can reflect the full diversity of yoga practice today.

📋 The survey takes just 10–15 minutes, works on any device, and all responses are confidential. Take the survey here: https://buff.ly/XKKQ7DR
