Union Rescue Mission- Little Rock

Union Rescue Mission- Little Rock Sharing faith, hope, and love since 1946. Through our faith based live in recovery programs lives are being changed.

Our Mission: We provide a place of refuge for the abused, recovery for the addicted and rescue for the hopeless through the transforming love of Jesus Christ. The Nehemiah House reaches out to the those caught in addiction, struggling in homelessness, and the disadvantaged men of Arkansas with the compassion of Jesus Christ. Those who are struggling with chemical dependency and other addictions find hope and support to break the shackles of their addictions and begin to rebuild their lives. Dorcas House provides help to women and children experiencing domestic violence and those caught addiction. We provide emergency services like food, shelter, clothing and crisis intervention to more than 400 women and children annually. We offer a faith based Domestic Violence Recovery Program and a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program led by licensed Christian therapists. We also offer longer-term living arrangements available through our Work Program once finished with Recovery programs. The curriculum that we offer goes beyond educating women about the cycle of violence and addiction but rather addresses root problems through intensive group therapy. There is counseling and therapy provided for the children as well as family group therapy. Our program encourages women to address deep-seeded pain and suffering like childhood sexual abuse, co-dependence and depression. By addressing the deeper issues and providing education on how to overcome those issues we see lives changed and unhealthy cycles broken. We work cooperatively with law enforcement and court officials to promote the protection and safety of battered women and children. For more information on our Recovery Programs through the Nehemiah House or the Dorcas House call (501) 370-0808 or go to our website at www.urmissionlr.org. If you or someone you know someone needs help, then please call the national domestic violence hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233); and she will be directed to the appropriate shelter or safe house.

🩶 Nehemiah House at the 2025 Stop Overdose Summit 🩶

Last week, a group of men from the Nehemiah House had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2025 Stop Overdose Summit in Hot Springs.

They spent the day learning from experts, hearing stories of survival and recovery, and gaining practical knowledge about opioid awareness, prevention, and response. They also shared with attendees about the Nehemiah House. Events like this are powerful reminders that education saves lives and that recovery is strengthened when we stay connected to the broader community working toward the same goal.

We are so proud of our guys for showing up eager to learn, grow, and bring valuable insight back to share with their brothers in the program. Their commitment to healing and serving others is exactly what makes the Nehemiah House such a special place.

Thank you to everyone who made this summit possible and for continuing to fight for hope, recovery, and life across Arkansas.

🧡✨ A Huge Thank You to Miss McRee and the Students at Metropolitan Career Technical Center! ✨🧡

Last week, Miss McRee brought two full busloads of students to the Dorcas House, and wow — they absolutely showed up and showed out!

With new legislation requiring high schoolers to complete volunteer hours for graduation, this was the perfect opportunity for these incredible young adults to serve their community… and they did it with enthusiasm, excellence, and teamwork.

They tackled some major projects including:
• Organizing and refreshing our daycare area
• Sorting through broken toys
• Deep-cleaning cabinets
• Sweeping and reorganizing the donation room
• Helping us prepare for the busy holiday season

These are not small tasks, and their hard work made a huge difference for our staff, our moms, and especially our kiddos. The Dorcas House feels lighter, cleaner, and more ready than ever for the months ahead — all thanks to their hands and hearts.

We hope this is the beginning of an ongoing relationship, and that we will see many of these students again. Their impact was felt deeply by everyone here, and we are so grateful for their willingness to serve.

Thank you, Miss McRee and students — you made a real difference! 🙌💛

🧡🍁 Thanksgiving Gratitude from the Union Rescue Mission Family 🍁🧡

We’re excited to share a special Thanksgiving video filled with voices from across our Mission family—our clients, our staff, and even our kiddos who have grown up within these walls of refuge and recovery.

In the clips you’ll hear what they are thankful for both at the Union Rescue Mission and in life. Some share gratitude for healing, second chances, family, and hope. Others speak about finding community and safety for the first time. And our children? Their excitement reminds us of the joy that still fills this house even in rebuilding seasons.

Our staff share a common thread of gratitude too—we are deeply thankful for the donors and volunteers who allow us to do this work. Your generosity makes it possible for us to show up every day and pour into men, women, and children who are stepping into freedom, recovery, and healthier futures.

This Thanksgiving, we pray every follower and supporter of the Union Rescue Mission feels blessed, encouraged, and carried by God’s goodness.

🕊️ May your day be peaceful. Your home feel full. Your heart feel light. And your Thanksgiving be blessed.

Thank you for walking with us into Giving Season. Thank you for caring. Thank you for supporting hope in Arkansas.

Happy Thanksgiving!

❗️Update on Oliver ❗️

Oliver is out of surgery and settled into his room for the night. He was hurting right after and his pain is now under control. He has been very well taken care of and the family is very thankful for all your prayers and support!

Check out the pic of Oliver in his room after surgery. 💙 Please continue to pray for his healing journey. Thank you for protecting our buddy today, Jesus! 🙌

*****
This morning, we invite our entire URM family and community to join us in lifting up a very special, strong, and courageous kiddo—Oliver—as he heads into surgery. Oliver is Matt, our Compliance Officer at the URM, precious son.❤️

Heavenly Father,

We come before You this morning with grateful hearts, lifting up Oliver into Your loving and powerful hands. We ask for Your covering over every nurse, doctor, and medical professional who will care for him today. Grant them wisdom, steady hands, and divine guidance through every step of the procedure.

We pray for Matt and Dena—fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind them that You are near, that You are faithful, and that You hold their precious boy safely in Your care.

Lord, we ask for a smooth surgery, a gentle transition into recovery, and a quick and complete healing. May this procedure bring Oliver greater comfort, strength, and a better quality of life ahead.

Thank You for the incredible gift Oliver is—so brave, so encouraging, and so full of courage that teaches all of us what true strength looks like. We love You, we trust You, and we praise You for the good work You are doing in his life.

We ask all these things in Your Son Jesus’ name, Amen.

Oliver, Matt, and Dena—your URM family loves you deeply, and you have a whole team of friends lifting you up in prayer this morning! 💙🙏

💍 Testimony Tuesday: Celebrating the Beautiful Story God Is Writing in Kathryn’s Life 💍

Today’s Testimony Tuesday is extra special because we get to celebrate the incredible journey of Kathryn Miller — now Kathryn Burks!

This past weekend, Kathryn was married in a small, intimate ceremony, marking the beginning of a brand-new chapter filled with hope, healing, and God’s perfect timing.

Kathryn’s story is one of transformation. She has walked through deep valleys, done the hard work of healing, and stepped boldly into the calling God placed on her life. Now, as our Director of Domestic Violence Recovery, she pours that same hope into the women she serves every single day.

And in the midst of her faithful journey, God brought her an amazing man who cherishes her and walks alongside her with love and respect. Her marriage is more than a celebration — it is a testimony of restoration, redemption, and answered prayer.

Kathryn, your life reminds us that God’s plans are good, His timing is perfect, and His restoration reaches far beyond what we can imagine. Congratulations, Kathryn and Jake. Your family at the Union Rescue Mission wishes you love and blessings in your marriage!

🎄Get Involved with Dorcas House Christmas! 🎄

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — and YOU can help make it even brighter for the women and children at the Dorcas House! ✨

There are so many ways to give back this Christmas, whether through time, treasure, or talent:

🎁 Adopt a Resident for Christmas – With a gift of around $150, you can make sure one of our women receives thoughtful presents that make her feel seen, loved, and celebrated this season. You can gift the cash or receive their wishlist and do the shopping yourself!

🧸 Donate to Our Toy Closet – We’re collecting toys for the children in our community so that every child can experience the joy of Christmas morning. Last year we were able to help 160 children and we would love to be able to do it again this year!

🍪 Host a Christmas Event – Bring holiday cheer by leading a fun activity like cookie decorating, ornament making, or singing Christmas carols.

🍽️ Serve or Sponsor a Meal – Share the love of Christ by providing a warm holiday meal for our residents.

🎁 Volunteer Behind the Scenes – Help us wrap gifts, sort donations, or organize supplies. (Did you know November through April is our busiest time of the year because of the holidays and spring cleaning?)

Every act of service and generosity helps us remind our residents — many of whom are starting over after trauma and loss — that they are deeply loved and never forgotten.

📩 If you’d like to get involved, reach out to Elizabeth Childress at echildress@urmissionlr.org
or message us here on Facebook.

Let’s make this Christmas one filled with hope, joy, and restoration at the Dorcas House! 💟

❤️A Heartfelt Thank You to Elizabeth Childress!

We want to take a moment to give a huge shoutout to our very own Elizabeth Childress, Director of Residential Services, for the incredible work she does behind the scenes on our social media accounts! 🙌

Elizabeth wears many hats here at the Mission, but she willingly took on this role because of her heart to share the goodness of God and the miraculous work He is doing in and through the Union Rescue Mission every single day. 💜

If you’ve ever managed social media, you know it’s no small task — planning, capturing photos, gathering stories, posting updates, and engaging with our amazing community takes time, creativity, and dedication. Elizabeth does all of this with such grace and joy, always pointing everything back to Jesus. ✝️

Elizabeth, this post is a little surprise — but we hope you know how deeply grateful we are for you! Thank you for using your gifts to help spread the message of hope, redemption, and transformation that God is writing through this ministry. We love you and appreciate the countless hours you pour into making sure the world sees just how faithful our God is! 💕
