Good afternoon everyone,

On April 19th, we will have Dr. Robert Doerksen from the University of Mississippi as our seminar speaker this Friday at noon. He is the Associate Dean of the Graduate School, an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, and a Research Associate Professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi. He will be lecturing on Applying Computational Medicinal Chemistry for the Discovery of Cannabinoid Receptor Ligands. We hope to see you all there this Friday at noon!

Good afternoon AAPS members,

We will have Dr. Laurie Parker as our seminar speaker this Friday at noon. Dr. Parker is an Associate Professor in the College of Biological Sciences, and the Director of Graduate Studies BMBB Graduate Program at the University of Minnesota. She will be lecturing on Building a Toolkit for Studying the Orphan Kinome. We hope to see you all there.

Dr. Eric Sebzda is an Associate Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology. He will be presenting his research on how tweaking the regulatory T cells activity improve the disease outcome today at noon! We hope to see you all there at the seminar.

Hey, All,

The University of Arkansas System is considering changes in its tenure policies which threatens academic freedom. This is not an UAMS AAPS Student Chapter sponsored event but I thought many of you who are thinking about a career in academia might find this talk interesting and relevant.

Peter Bonilla, the Vice-President of FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education), is giving a talk titled: "Why Academic Freedom, Employee Rights and Job Security are Important" this Monday (01.22.18) at noon in the Pauly Auditorium (Rahn building G219) at UAMS.

Lawrence J. Lesko, Ph.D., F.C.P. joined the UF Research and Academic Center in Lake Nona (Orlando) in July 2011. Before joining UF, Dr. Lesko worked nearly 20 years in the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research as the Director of the Office of Clinical Pharmacology. He was also Chair of the Clinical Pharmacology Coordinating Subcommittee of the FDA’s Medical Policy Coordinating Committee and authored or co-authored numerous Guidance for Industry, and started the FDA’s Voluntary Genomics Data Submission Program and Mechanistic Drug Safety Program. Dr. Lesko has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is a frequent invited national and international speaker in clinical pharmacology, personalized medicine, pharmacometrics and systems pharmacology. His research interests include drug development and regulatory science, quantitative clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenomics.
In 2011, Dr. Lesko received the Gary Neil Prize for Innovation in Drug Development from the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT). He also received the Coriell Scientific Leadership Award for Personalized Medicine (2010), the Rawls-Palmer Progress in Medicine award from ASCPT (2007), the University of North Carolina Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy Award for Clinical Service (2007), and the Nathanial B. Kwit Distinguished Service Award for Clinical Pharmacology from the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (2007). Dr. Lesko served as President of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology in 2004-2006. He is a Fellow in the Japanese Society for the Study of Xenobiotics, American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. He is Board Certified in Clinical Pharmacology and a registered pharmacist.
