UAMS Vascular & Endovascular Surgery The official page of the UAMS Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.

The surgeons of the Vascular Center at UAMS are all fellowship-trained vascular surgeons and certified by the American Board of Surgery. This means that we are trained to use the most up-to-date approaches to manage diseases of the body’s blood vessels, using a tailored approach to each case. This is because we use both minimally-invasive endovascular approaches, as well as open (traditional) vasc

ular surgery. This allows us to customize the management of a patient’s condition to select the best possible outcome for each individual case. We use a wide range of approaches in treating patients with all forms of vascular disease, and tailor the approach to each patient by weighing the risks and benefits in a custom-designed manner. In addition to offering a full range of state-of-the-art surgical and diagnostic services, we also lead the State of Arkansas with cutting edge medical and innovative therapies in clinical research. The vascular surgery team at UAMS is actively enrolling patients in multinational trials to help discover new treatment options, have access to technology and experience that is not available in any other hospital in the State. Our surgeons write, edit and review the medical literature that paves the road to advances in vascular surgery. Our team has over 42 years of combined experience in vascular surgery (between only 5 surgeons), including complex vascular reconstructions using femoral vein, management of traumatic aortic injuries, pediatric vascular surgery, vertebral artery disease, carbon dioxide imaging for endovascular aortic procedures (no contrast dye) for patients with renal failure, treatment for renal artery and mesenteric arteries and the management of infected aortic disease, to name only a few. We also have Arkansas’ only vascular surgery fellowship training program since 1985, and we have one of the nation’s first vascular surgery residencies, starting in 2009. The Vascular Surgery division partners with Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock to cover vascular surgery procedures, which provides another site for its growing resident and fellowship training in vascular surgery. The all-Board Certified UAMS vascular surgery group also has a clinic at Baptist Health Hospital, providing 24/7 coverage for vascular emergencies and consults. We accept referrals for consultation/second opinion and ongoing management, and would be happy to help treat patients with “straight forward” as well as complex vascular conditions.
