We are thrilled to announce the publication of a groundbreaking study revealing a novel way that medications and environmental molecules may influence the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

With the essential collaboration of Dr. Corey Nagel from the UAMS College of Nursing, Dr. Asante uncovered significant differences in Alzheimer’s rates among individuals taking certain medications.

This exciting discovery opens new doors for understanding prevention and treatment strategies. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the connections between our environment, medications, and brain health!

We are happy to celebrate the retirement of an extraordinary nurse, educator, researcher, and mentor—Dr. Melodee Harris. While she humbly requested no formal celebration, we couldn’t let this day pass without recognizing her profound impact on the UAMS College of Nursing and the nursing profession as a whole.

Since joining our faculty in 2003, Dr. Harris has been a driving force in advancing gerontological nursing education, research, and practice. Her accomplishments are many, including:

✨ Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing
✨ Developer of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner track
✨ Over $2.7M in funded research and program grants
✨ Co-Director of the Arkansas Hartford Center of Geriatric Excellence
✨ Author of 49 manuscripts, 19 book chapters, and 100+ presentations
✨ Mentor to countless students and faculty

Beyond the accolades, Dr. Harris has been a generous mentor, a visionary leader, and a steadfast advocate for older adults and their families. Her legacy will continue to shape our college and the field of nursing for years to come.

Though she is retiring, we’re thrilled that Dr. Harris will remain connected as a volunteer faculty member—continuing to inspire and guide us with her wisdom.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Harris all the best in this exciting new chapter! 💐
