UAMS Department of Emergency Medicine Our residents enjoy a diversified educational experience including cadaver labs, simulation labs, pediatric helicopter transport, and research.

We remain dedicated not only to creating good EM physicians, but strong community leaders. The Department of Emergency Medicine at UAMS has a very rich and distinguished history. Founded in 1983, only fours years after ABEM sanctioned the creation of Emergency Medicine residency programs, we have been training Emergency Medicine physicians for close to 30 years. UAMS is Arkansas’ only Level 1 Tra

uma Center. Past residents have gone on to be everything from small town emergency physicians to chairpersons of both academic and private practice emergency departments. Our graduates have become faculty members at many prestigious institutions and among our graduates are several Presidents of the Arkansas chapter of ACEP. The Department of Emergency Medicine remains dedicated not only to creating good physicians, but good leaders in both Emergency Medicine and their communities. Each year the total number of applicants, from both the US and world-wide, to our program continues to increase and Emergency Medicine has become one of the more popular fields of choice among UAMS graduates.

Wrapped up our latest journal club tonight at Southern Tail in Little Rock — big thanks to them for hosting us! We had a great discussion on end-tidal CO₂ and its applications in different types of cardiac arrest, including how it can help guide resuscitation efforts and assess CPR quality.⁠

This was also the last journal club for many of our third years — we’ll definitely miss having you all with us next year.

What a fantastic day spent with the UAMS Emergency Medicine Residency Program at our summer intern retreat! 🌞 We had perfect weather, so we couldn’t resist heading down by the river to enjoy the views.

The day was filled with valuable scenarios that helped us become better upper-level residents, while also sharing insights about the highs and lows of life as a resident. After all that learning, we wrapped it up with some friendly competition on the putting green ⛳ Mark Canner won, followed by a well-deserved snack at Lost 40.
