UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging

UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging This is the official page for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging Department of Geriatrics.

Our mission is clinical care, education, and research. Established through a $28.8 million gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, the Reynolds Institute on Aging recognizes that the focus of health care must shift from merely keeping people alive to making those later years healthier and more productive. In other words, the focus is not adding years to life; rather, it’s adding life to years

. Through the generosity of the Reynolds Foundation in providing an additional $33.4 million gift in 2009, we are poised to expand our services, continuing our tradition of providing world-class medical care to the citizens of Arkansas. Our patient services include the Thomas and Lyon Longevity clinic, Walker Family Memory center, Housecall program and Palliative Care program.

Our wonderful volunteer, Mrs. Susie Whittington, has such a kind and gentle heart and spirit. She is amazing, and we just love her!

Mrs. Whittington is a retired professional who spent her career at AT&T and running her own successful florist and landscaping business.

Mrs. Whittington is now a spirited advocate of caregivers, providing guidance for those who need it. She has written a book, "Heart of a Caregiver" that shows first-time caregivers how to find strength during difficult times.

Mrs. Whittington urges other aging adults to remain active in the causes they care about.

"You just have to live your life and not your age," she said.

When Susie Whittington stepped into the role of caregiver for an ailing adult son, she initially didn’t realize how challenging and rewarding this new chapter of her life would turn out to be. “When I first started, I didn’t know what to expect,” said Whittington, a patient and volunteer at....

Congratulations to our three Geriatrics Fellows, Dr. Benjamin Frazier, Dr. Khadija Khan, and Dr. Namrata Dogra! They recently received the highly competitive American Medical Director's Association (AMDA) Futures Program Travel Award. The process is intensive and requires completion of a detailed questionnaire and a written reflection on their experiences and commitment to long-term care. The three were able to attend the annual AMDA conference in March, with Dr. Priya Mendiratta (also pictured) the Program Director for the UAMS Geriatrics Fellowship.
