As Breast Cancer Awareness month comes to a close, we pause to salute everyone involved in the fight for the cure. 🥊

🌸From those currently in the fight and the caregivers providing much needed care,
🌸To those involved in research into a cure,
🌸To the health care providers treating the fighters,
🌸To the survivors and everyone in between, we salute you.

🌸To those who have made their transition due to breast cancer, we honor your legacy.

The weather was crisp last Friday in Helena (Phillips County) for the Arkansas Foodbank’s food distribution at New Light Missionary Baptist Church. ⛪

More than 200 families were served nutritious staples 🥫and were able to participate in getting important health screenings (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol). 🩺

Thank you, Pastor Andre & First Lady Keisha Valley and the church family for hosting. Thank you to the military personnel 🪖 and Helena Fired Department 🚒for assisting with food box assembly and distribution.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Did you know? Smoking increases the risk of breast cancer and makes recovery harder.

This month, take charge of your health, schedule a screening, know your risk, and choose tobacco-free living.

It’s a thriller, thriller night! 👻🧟👹 Have fun, be safe, and don’t forget ⬇️

If you see a teen or adult collapse, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

What rain? ☔ The light rain didn’t stop the Greater Second Baptist Church members from participating in their 2nd annual walk for 🩷breast cancer🩷 this past Saturday in southwest Little Rock.

The 1.3 mile walk helped attendees get ready for the workshop that came immediately after. 🚶🏾‍♀️

Besides providing important health screenings like blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, a presentation on breast cancer 101, and stories from survivors were shared.

Thank you, Pastor Featherstone and Greater Second Baptist Church for all you do for the community.

👻 Treat your body, don’t trick it!

Halloween is all about treats, so let’s remember that food is our most powerful tool for health.

Enjoy sweets, but don’t forget to treat your body too!
Try these spooky swaps:
🎃 Dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate
🎃 Roasted pumpkin seeds instead of chips
🎃 Homemade apple cider instead of soda

Enjoy your favorites, too, but remember to add some nutrients when you can.

Today marks Secondary (Metastatic) Breast Cancer Awareness Day - so please share and spread the word. While most breast cancers don’t come back after treatment, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms in case they do.

Speak to your GP or breast care nurse if you have any new symptoms that:
✅Are new or unusual for you
✅Don't have an obvious cause
✅Don't go away

Arkansas Minority Health Commission: Your Health. Our Priority.

At the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, our goal is to be a catalyst in bridging the gap in the health status of the minority population and that of the majority population in Arkansas. To accomplish this, the commission focuses on addressing existing disparities in minority communities, educating these communities on healthier lifestyles, promoting awareness of services and accessibility within our health care system, and making recommendations to relevant agencies, the Governor and to the state legislature.
