The Capacity Building Grant is open until January 9 and it’s only available to Alliance members!

Now’s the perfect time to join the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. Across the state, our Local Hunger Relief Organization (LHRO) members are the engine of hunger relief: food pantries, food rescues, emergency shelters, and soup kitchens all working toward one goal: ensuring every Arkansan has access to nutritious food.

As a LHRO member, you get access to tools that strengthen your work, including:

• Funding opportunities to expand your impact
• Trainings like SNAP Outreach and Cooking Matters
• Advocacy updates that help you make your voice heard
• A statewide network of peers and partners
• Member-only events like the Annual Membership Conference

If your organization is ready to grow, this is your moment. The Capacity Building Grant Cycle opened December 1, offering support designed to help local hunger relief efforts flourish.

Join the Alliance and become part of a statewide movement to empower neighbors and nourish communities.

We enjoyed attending the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Arkansas - ACS CAN Annual Breakfast last week. It was great hearing updates from organizations working every day to eliminate cancer in the community. 🧬

Congratulations to the legislators and scientists who received awards for their significant contributions to cancer education and research. 👨🏾‍🔬

We were excited to learn that UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute will be receiving 3 new, state-of-the-art mobile lung cancer screening units and 2 more Mammovans that will be dispatched to increase screening for lung and breast cancer around the state. Early detection saves lives! 🔬

Enjoyed hearing construction updates from Donna Terrell Lambert regarding the forthcoming Warrior Lodge in Pine Bluff. Slated to open in early Spring, Warrior Lodge will provide no-cost lodging for patients receiving cancer treatment at Jefferson Regional. 👏🏾

Thank you, City of Little Rock - Department of Community Programs for inviting us to participate in your men’s wellness event last week at the West Central Community Center.

We enjoyed meeting everyone and providing important health screenings like blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol screenings. 🩺🩹

: Indoor physical activities are just as effective as doing the same ones outside? 🏃🏾We loved learning how to play pickleball with the attendees. 🏓Physical activity is an important part of one’s overall health. The key is finding an activity that you like; this way, you increase your chances of sticking with it. 🚴🏾‍♀️

Thank you, City of Little Rock, AR - Government, for the opportunity to serve in this way. 👏🏾

: Rain is not a respecter of food insecurity. ☔In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are thankful to Ms. Gracie, Ms. Teresa and the team at the Arkansas Food Bank Distribution Center in Lexa (Phillips County) for continuing with its food distribution despite the rain last month.

More than 200 families were served just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. We had to move health screenings inside the hub and appreciate everyone who weathered the elements to get their important health checks. 🩹🩺

Arkansas Minority Health Commission: Your Health. Our Priority.

At the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, our goal is to be a catalyst in bridging the gap in the health status of the minority population and that of the majority population in Arkansas. To accomplish this, the commission focuses on addressing existing disparities in minority communities, educating these communities on healthier lifestyles, promoting awareness of services and accessibility within our health care system, and making recommendations to relevant agencies, the Governor and to the state legislature.
