We attended a large First Responder conference this weekend, where we got to hear story after story from different officers, SWAT team members, military about their struggles with all sorts of brain related issues
From multiple concussions, to significant sleep issues, to compounded trauma over all the years, these men have done and seen it all. Thankfully, there has been a major push in recent years for first responders to work on proactive mental resiliency.
I was talking to one of the Chiefs at an agency and he said they need to call PTSD ‘post traumatic stress injury’. He said we need to drop the word DISORDER. If one of his men were to be physically injured on the job, they would not let him go back in the streets until he was able physically. However, if there is an injury to the mind, you are typically back on the job the next day.
This is why being able to regulate and train the brain after high stress or trauma is so critical. Getting to support first responders is nothing but an honor and it is my hope that more agencies will continue to work proactively to support their men and women serving this country.
It was also very cool getting to walk around and see all of the advanced gear, tech, and law enforcement equipment!
