Shama Collective
Mission and Vision

Henri Nouwen said, "The work of healing isn't about the right thing to do or say but about creating the space within oneself where the stories of others can be held." Shama Collective mission is to create space for stories to be heard and held for the purpose of healing in order to live out our distinct and collective craft to grow beauty. Our vision is also distinct and collective:

1 We strive to individually and cooperatively listen, hear and respond to the voice of Love, equipping others to a life of play and calling.
2 We work to create a space where each person works uniquely but collectively out of their story and gifts as prophet, priest and king.
3 We live from a collaborative place of friendship, vulnerability and creativity.
4 Through this space we work toward training, teaching, supervising, counseling and attending to the whole person toward integration and ongoing healing of the individual but far greater corporate body, heart and mind.
5 We train and teach with the humility of learning from each other and our clients. Further, we exist to grow the body of Christ toward deeper life in freedom, creativity, and beauty. We do not work from a hierarchy but instead recognize that each person’s contribution stands on its own yet is further incorporated into a family where our total power and strength is far greater than any individual alone. We work as a unit. We teach each other and have the humility to learn from each other. We work out of our unique individuality as well as far greater as a body. Please let us know how we can help!

A gentle reminder for anyone who needs it today:

This graphic shows some *common trauma responses*—but it’s not an exhaustive list. Every nervous system responds in its own way, and that’s okay. If you recognize any of these patterns in yourself or in someone around you, start by simply *talking about it*.

Find a safe person, place, or community where you feel *seen*, not *fixed*. Healing doesn’t come from being told to "get over it"—it comes from being met with presence, patience, and care.

Trauma isn’t just about the event itself—it’s about what happens *inside* us. And we don’t have to be directly impacted by something to carry it in our bodies.

You’re not weak.
There’s no such thing as “I shouldn’t feel this way.”
You don’t have to “handle it better” just because something happened far away or “wasn’t that bad.”

If it hurts, it matters.
If it’s in your system, it’s real.

You’re not alone—and you’re not too much. You’re human. And you’re allowed to take up space in your own healing.

So true.

So true.

Numbing yourself can feel like relief - like finally shutting off the noise.

And in the moment, it is relief. It’s your nervous system saying, “This is too much right now, let’s press pause.”

But here’s the truth: you can’t numb selectively.
The same wall that quiets grief, anger, or pain also dulls joy, love, and connection.

Your body is doing its best to protect you- but protection isn’t the same as healing.

Numbness may keep you safe for a season, but if you stay there, it slowly drains the color from life. You stop feeling the lows and the highs.

Real healing happens when those emotions get a safe place to move through you instead of staying locked inside. That might look like talking it out, letting your body release what it’s held, or working with a therapist who can guide you through the layers of grief and pain.

Because your emotions aren’t enemies to be silenced - they’re signals that need tending. And the more you learn to feel them safely, the more room you create for joy, love, and connection to return.

We live in a world that teaches us to move on quickly. To push through. To stay productive.
To smile, even when we’re hurting.

Maybe you learned early on that there wasn’t room for your pain. That it made others uncomfortable. That it got dismissed, punished, or ignored.

So you adapted.
You shut it down.
You got really good at surviving.

But over time, those survival strategies—numbing, avoiding, over-functioning, pretending—can become prisons.

Maybe overachieving once kept you safe—but now you can’t rest without guilt.

Maybe shutting down helped you survive chaos—but now you feel numb even in moments that should bring joy.

Maybe people-pleasing kept the peace growing up—but now you don’t know what you want or need.

Here’s what I’ve seen again and again: Unattended pain doesn’t disappear.

It burrows deeper—into the body, the nervous system, the way we relate.

It leaks out sideways as anxiety, chronic tension, irritability, disconnection.

It begins to shape how we see ourselves, how we love, and how safe we feel in our own skin—and in the world.

And yet—slowing down to feel can feel terrifying. Especially if no one ever taught you how to feel without judgment or shame.

That’s why curiosity is such a powerful—and radical—act of healing. Curiosity says: “I don’t have to fear this pain. I can learn from it.”

It invites us to sit beside the part of us that’s hurting, rather than trying to silence it.

It might sound like:
✨ “What is this emotion trying to tell me?”
✨ “Where have I felt this before?”
✨ “What part of me is showing up right now?”
✨ “How did this reaction once keep me safe?”

This is the heart of what I guide people through in integrative trauma therapy. Not just symptom relief, but reconnection.

Because when pain finally feels heard, it doesn’t have to build walls. It begins to soften.

And that moment of listening? That’s where healing begins.

It’s not always fast or easy. But it’s honest and real. And it ultimately leads to transformation that lasts.
