❤️ Heart Health Matters in the North Country

Heart disease touches thousands of families across New Hampshire, including many right here in our rural communities. Staying heart healthy often starts with small, practical steps — regular check-ins with a provider, understanding your personal risk factors, and having access to care and prevention supports close to home.

At NCHC, we see every day how education, care coordination, and community-based services help people manage chronic conditions and stay well — especially in regions where access can be more limited.

This American Heart Month, we encourage you to check in on your heart, check in on a neighbor, and take one step toward healthier days ahead.

❤️ American Heart Month – Right Here in New Hampshire

About 63,000 people in New Hampshire are living with coronary heart disease—the most common form of heart disease. The good news? Many risk factors can be prevented or improved through everyday choices and access to regular care.

are healthier when we:
• Move our bodies more
• Eat nourishing foods
• Get enough sleep
• Reduce stress
• Quit smoking

Ambulatory care teams, primary care providers, nurses, and community health professionals across the North Country help patients take these steps every day—through education, screenings, chronic disease management, and coordinated care close to home.

This February, take one small step for your heart: schedule a check-up, ask about your numbers, or support someone you love in doing the same.

⚠️ Weather Update – Travel Advisory for Southern NH & Coastal Areas

While northern New Hampshire is expected to see limited impacts, the National Weather Service is reporting blizzard or near-blizzard conditions across southern New Hampshire and coastal Maine today, with the worst conditions expected through mid-afternoon.

If you are traveling south today or have family, staff, or clients in southern NH or along the coast, please use extra caution. Travel is not advised in some areas due to blowing snow, reduced visibility, and strong winds.

Key points to know:
• Blizzard or near-blizzard conditions in southern NH
• Hazardous travel conditions, especially in open areas
• Strong wind gusts along the coast
• Conditions expected to gradually improve later this afternoon

As always, we encourage everyone to check the latest updates from the National Weather Service and adjust travel plans if possible.

Last Wednesday, another workgroup meeting took place with Tricia Case and Pyper Williams—artists, community members, and enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about mentoring youth through the arts.

Together, they’re helping us explore creative opportunities where young people can connect, express themselves, and build confidence in welcoming, supportive spaces. Conversations like these are at the heart of our Positive Youth Development work—bringing caring adults and community partners to the table to imagine what’s possible for North Country youth.

We’re grateful for neighbors like Tricia and Pyper who show up with ideas, energy, and a genuine commitment to the next generation 💫.

âť„ Weather Update for the North Country

The National Weather Service is forecasting snow late Tuesday into Wednesday, with most of northern New Hampshire expected to see 3–6 inches, and locally higher amounts possible in some areas.

What to expect:
• Snow may impact the Tuesday evening commute
• Travel impacts more likely Wednesday morning
• Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of the region
• Conditions should be drier later in the week, with another system possible this weekend

If you have appointments, deliveries, or travel planned, consider building in extra time and checking in with providers or organizations ahead of Wednesday morning.

Stay safe, check on neighbors who may need support, and follow the latest updates from the National Weather Service. 🌨

The first meet-up of this workgroup took place at Littleton CrossFit on January 22, bringing together a group of driven and committed North Country community members—especially those passionate about fitness opportunities for youth.

We spent time getting to know one another and talking about why this work matters: helping kids feel healthy, confident, and fulfilled—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our next step is to brainstorm ideas, share dreams and possibilities, and explore how this initiative can support meaningful, youth-focused projects in the months ahead.

This group includes faith leaders, a police chief, dancers, a youth counselor, a psych nurse, parents, and two teens who coach fitness for younger kids—an incredible mix of perspectives and energy.

Yay for a strong (and fun!) start! đź’Şđź’š

Smiles, ideas, and big conversations at the Boys & Girls Club đź’«

This subgroup of the Coalition for Positive Youth Development is focused on creating more third spaces for teens—places outside of home and school where young people can connect, feel safe, and build community.

Exciting work is underway to make the North Country a place where every teen has room to grow and belong.

Merida and Dhaniele from NCHC, as well as teens and community partners, gathered yesterday at White Mountains Regional High School to plan the first North Country Youth Coalition meeting to take place on March 6.

Students helped shape the agenda and even led the design of the invitation flyer—because this coalition is meant to be youth-led from the very beginning.

We can’t wait to bring together teens from across the North Country to connect, pitch ideas, and build projects that strengthen their schools and communities. Stay tuned!
