Ben rode unclipped, all by himself, around human “barrels”. We are so proud of him!

Ben got his horse to trot and walk using leg cues. He steered using his reins. He laughed and HAD A BLAST!

When he first started at TRS this summer, he was afraid of horses. We love watching transformations like Ben’s, don’t you?

Chiclet, our 2007 Norwegian Fjord mare, is the March horse of the month. She’s a sweet and sassy pony with a cool mohawk, big personality, and beautiful brown eyes.

She came to TRS from our longtime friend Rebecca at Fox Hill Equestrian Center.

Who else adores Chiclet?!

Adaptive riders play games that improve balance, core strength, and memory, like this lesson with Uriah riding Austin!

ISO: Horses for Adaptive Riding and Horsemanship Program

The Right Step, Inc. adaptive riding and horsemanship program is seeking kind, dependable horses ready for a meaningful next chapter. We are looking for solid, trustworthy partners capable of comfortably carrying riders weighing up to 180 lbs.
We prefer a full-care lease, but can do adoption in the right circumstance.

Ideal candidate:
-Quiet, calm, and well-mannered
-Steady temperament and tolerant of riders who may be unbalanced or loud
-Willing and eager to learn
-Serviceably sound at the walk, trot, and canter, maintenance ok
-Large-bodied and sturdy, 14.2-15.3 hh
-Comfortable living in a stall with daily turnout

Care and placement would begin after we move to our new facility in Sedalia in May, but we’d love to meet horses now.

Horses are well cared for and valued as partners in our program, supporting clients of varying abilities in a safe, structured environment.

If you have a horse that may be a good fit or know of one looking for a purposeful home, we’d love to connect! Email Christine Remy, Executive Director, at christiner@therightstepinc.org. Thanks!

Smart and sassy. We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Volunteers, if you’re horse leading with a client on the back of a horse, do you know what to do if your horse wants to speed up?

Myleah Coleman, a PATH-certified instructor for The Right Step, Inc., explains how you can slow your horse down.

Myleah shows us how to lift your hand UP a little. (Don’t pull back, pull up!) When the horse slows, release the pressure, and return your hand to neutral.

Thanks, Myleah and Blueberry for demonstrating this!
