“I’m 88, but I feel no older than 50. I’m still very fit and healthy, so sometimes I even forget my age. At the same time, I do see people around me declining and passing away. My wife died shortly after I retired, and since then I’ve lost quite a few family members as well. As sad as that is, it’s something you have to learn to live with. It’s simply part of getting older.

I consider myself lucky that I can still do so much and feel this good. I couldn’t tell you the secret to healthy aging, but I do go for a walk every day. Sometimes just around the neighborhood, and sometimes all the way to the Albert Cuyp market, where I treat myself to a nice croquette. Oh, and I don’t smoke. My mother was a real woman from Groningen—strict, and smoking was absolutely forbidden. Believe me, you couldn’t fool her.

I also spent my whole life working in construction. After my wife passed away, my daughter had just given birth to twins. She was also going through a divorce at the time and had a demanding job at a bank that required a lot of travel. So I offered to look after my grandchildren. I did that for years, and I loved every minute of it.

These days, you’ll often find me at the neighborhood repair café. I help local residents and fix vacuum cleaners and other electronics. I also regularly visit people at home to help them with chores around the house.

There are quite a few single women living here who need help with practical things, like putting up curtains or changing light bulbs. People often recognize me on the street and then they smile and say: ‘Hey, Mister Jan!’ It doesn’t take much to be a good neighbor and to make other people happy. I really love doing it.”

Being a woman is a calling to spirituality.

A calling to creation, and community.

As massage therapists, what a gift it is to witness you and all the glory that you are.

To witness everything that you hold.

To also create time and space, for you to gently witness yourself.

I love that we have created a safe space where nothing is off limits- your joy, your celebrations, your grief and frustrations. It all deserves to be honored and acknowledged, and we will do so with you 🙏🏻

January Recap!

We wrapped up 2025 and rang in the new year with a heartfelt journaling session and the amazing bringing her talented sound healing to the office of Align!

Our office dad Ke celebrated his birthday!

Kayla completed her Ashiatsu certification!

As a team we completed continuing education on the structure of the street, and in house workshops and training refining our techniques in Ashiatsu, side lying massage, and advanced head and neck techniques.

We had so much fun at our office photoshoot with !

We have been so grateful for all of the continued support, gratitude, and excitement we receive from our clients and our community about the work we’re doing 🙏🏻💛
