✨ This is where I love the BOTH of functional and integrative medicine.

There are many situations where exogenous progesterone is both helpful AND necessary, especially with ART procedures.

But I am astounded how many women schedule appointments with our clinic who NEVER had a proper work up for preconception health.

Who never had any root causes of recurrent losses investigated.

Who were told they could just be given progesterone and all would be hunky dory, without any sort of other recommendation to optimize their hormonal or metabolic health…

Never being given a single shred of information on how to support their OWN progesterone production (or WHY it might be low).

Without any doctor helping them understand the long term ramifications of low progesterone (or luteal insufficiency) and how this matters for them beyond just staying pregnant.

This is especially true of our mommas in waiting with PCOS. They are so rarely properly supported, and so often shuttled straight into IVF without any prep that will help them get the most out of that incredibly intense experience.

❌ Scrap the RDA’s take on protein - it’s outdated and doesn’t meet our needs for optimal function and health!

⚡️Aim for 1g per pound of ideal body weight per day.

❌ No, this will not destroy a healthy person’s kidneys. Of course, you are bio-individual - your needs and goals should be based on YOU! But the blanket ‘kidney scare’ is as outdated as the low protein recommendations.

Are You Ready for Daylight Savings to begin AGAIN?! *groan*
Let's just say, we aren't fans (for SO many reasons). BUT this is just another reality in our western world that we can "biohack" to minimize the negative effects and thrive despite an unnatural shift affecting our biology! The first 5 are our favorite ways to optimize sleep all year 'round, but #6 is really helpful for the "Spring Ahead" season when we lose an hour of our day. Dr. K has recommended this to patients for years - start now, and spread out the loss of the hour! Set your alarm clock to wake you up 5-10 minutes early every day in the 1-2 weeks leading up to Daylight Savings weekend. The loss of the hour is still hard on your biology and your brain, but at least it makes that first Monday suck less (especially combined with these other top tips)!

Happy Leap Year (& Rare Diseases Day (and wildly, happy birthday to TWO of my patients - so unique & cool))!!
Some of us will let this extra, bonus day pass more or less unnoticed...but one day that any of us not in Arizona won't be able to ignore (even if we want to) is the start of Daylights Savings Time (wuh wuhh) 😒 we will be sharing our favorite hacks from now until March 10th to prepare for the dreaded "leap ahead" which really, isn't healthy (and in our opinion, should be done away with). So before we give away any of our secrets, let's hear from you guys! Any questions you want us to answer specifically? Are you for or against Daylights Savings? What are your favorite ways to prepare (yes stocking up on espresso counts, even if it isn't the most healthy lol)?
