Winter break means extra time with the kids, and extra opportunities for open, honest conversations. Talking about safety, trust, and the power of speaking up helps children know that their voice matters. And that it’s always okay to tell.

A recent public-records request confirmed that ZERO mental-health screenings are being conducted in many counties—including Suwannee County Schools—despite Florida Statute requirements and existing state mental-health allocations. This raises important questions about awareness, communication, and implementation of the resources intended to support our children.

Our public-records request further shows that the counties that DO conduct any mental-health screenings often do not begin Tier-1 screening until Grade 4. As a result, thousands of younger students—including those displaying early signs of emotional dysregulation or ACE-related risk—go unidentified during the most critical developmental years.

The ACE-to-BASE™ SEL program is intentionally structured to support children based on developmental and cognitive level, rather than assigned grade level. This design allows for earlier and more accurate identification of students—especially those whose reading comprehension is not yet at grade level—who may require emotional, behavioral, or literacy supports.

Learning real-world life skills early is one of the strongest predictors of long-term independence and confidence.

Opportunities like this matter—especially for our neurodiverse teens and young adults who thrive when we give them tools, not barriers.
Love seeing programs that build skills for life.

ACE-to-BASE™

The guiding principle is simple:

We must help children heal before “broken children” grow into “broken adults.”

ACE-to-BASE™ exists to move systems upstream—toward prevention, early identification, and support, rather than waiting for crisis.

Big feelings are normal — but when they disrupt daily life, it may be time to check in. Parents know their children best, and trusting your instincts matters.

One powerful way to support kids before struggles become crises is Tier 1 Universal Mental-Health Screening in our schools. It helps identify at-risk children early, reduce barriers, and give families the support they deserve.

Every child has tough days — moments of anger, sadness, or frustration. But when those feelings start to affect daily life, it may be time to reach out for help. Trust your instincts, you know your child best.

Talking with a pediatrician, counselor, or mental health professional can make all the difference.

New NAMI/Ipsos poll findings show rising concern about the U.S. mental health system — and strong public opposition to cuts to services, crisis lines, housing, and Medicaid.

Stress and poor mental health are climbing, and people want leaders to protect the supports they rely on.

Public records requests and data inquiries in Florida have shown that many counties are not conducting any formal mental health screening for students. In other areas, screening is inconsistent or fragmented. This lack of coordinated early screening, paired with rising behavioral and emotional needs, led directly to the development of ACE-to-BASE™.
