"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."--Steve Jobs
I have wanted be a doctor more than anything in the world for as far as I can remember. No matter how hard I tried to look into other career paths, I was continually drawn to medicine like a tractor beam. All the sacrifices made to get here....sleepless nights spent studying for entrance exams, answering pages in the middle of the night, dropping everything in your personal life at a moment’s notice to come in for an emergency life-saving surgery....this is the call of duty. This is our calling. And I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel very incredibly blessed for this honor and privilege to be a doctor, to be a neurosurgeon, to make a difference in this world.
Grateful for all my former teachers who have invested their time in mentoring me, my current colleagues, residents and medical students who continue to sharpen me and push me to advance my knowledge and skills, and to all my patients who entrust their lives to us and continue to help us understand their neurological conditions so that we can better care for them.
To all my physician friends and colleagues, I salute you and wish you all a Happy National Doctor’s Day. Continue to live the dream.
