Today is World Doula Day (and the start of Doula Week)

Today we celebrate the quiet strength, steady hands, and compassionate hearts behind so many birth stories.

From pregnancy to labor to postpartum, our role is simple but powerful:
✨ To inform
✨ To comfort
✨ To advocate
✨ To remind you that you are not alone

Birth & postpartum are transformative, and no one should have to walk through it without support.

To every family who has trusted us with one of life’s most sacred moments. Thank you! And to the doulas everywhere showing up at all hours, pouring love into their communities, we see you and we celebrate you today 💛

With love,
Brenda, Danielle, Emily, Laura, Jessa, Hannah, Karah, Destiny, & Bailey

Our Doulas have availability.

“But women have been having babies for thousands of years. The process hasn’t changed.”

This thought process isn’t wrong. But things do change!

Maybe not the overall process of birth, but the options, providers, policies, and cultural norms around birth absolutely change.

What changes am I referring to?

Let me just share some of the things that have changed in the SIX very short years since I had my last baby.

Locally:
• The number of available home birth midwives has increased
• The number of doulas has increased
• More options for childbirth education classes have become available
• OBGYN Associates became Diana Health (and added more providers)
• CRMC now offers nitrous oxide for pain management in labor
• The number of events held for expectant & new parents has increased
• There is now a maternity clinic operated by Upper Cumberland Midwifery Services, LLC
• A doula collective now exists - Birth Connections of the Upper Cumberland
• We now have a local 3D ultrasound studio - Sweet Baby Imaging of TN
• More women are requesting Doulas be at their births
• And more…

Nationwide
(Nothing listed here is a recommendation for or against anything, simply examples of some changes.):

• The U.S. C-section rate increased slightly in recent years
• The percentage of baby boys being circumcised has dropped to under 50%
• More hospitals are shifting toward rooming babies in with their mothers instead of using the nursery
• The “Golden Hour” after birth has become much more mainstream in hospitals
• Low-dose baby aspirin is being recommended more often during pregnancy for certain risk factors
• The ARRIVE Trial changed many conversations around elective 39-week inductions (this study came out in 2018 but really started being implemented after 2020)

And this really just scratches the surface of the changes.

Birth itself may be ancient… but the systems surrounding it are constantly evolving.

Which is exactly why staying informed, and building the right support team matters.

Today is International Women’s Day.

And we get to witness women do something incredible.

Every. Single. Day.

We see the strength it takes
to trust your body.

To breathe through the unknown.

To bring new life into the world.

As Doulas
we don’t catch babies.

We hold hands.
We hold space.
We hold the room.

So women can step into their power.

Happy International Women’s Day
to every woman who has labored,
every woman preparing to,
and every woman supporting women.

You are powerful. 🌿

Meet the team:
Bailey Bailey -Birth Doula
Owner of Orah Doula services

"Hello! My name is Bailey, I am the doula behind Orah Doula services. I’m a mama to two beautiful children and a wife to my incredibly loving, supportive husband. My journey through motherhood is what ignited my passion for birth and for walking alongside families during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.
I’m a natural birth enthusiast at my core, inspired by the beautiful design of the lord, but I am here to support births of all kinds—hospital, home, medicated, unmedicated, inductions, C-sections. Your birth deserves respect, support, and informed choice, no matter what it looks like.
I love wildlife, gardening, and natural remedies, and I value a holistic approach to care—while also remaining evidence-based. I believe the most empowering support combines intuition, compassion, and education.
My mission is to create a calm, informed, and supported birth experience where you feel heard, confident, and never alone. 🤍
I’m so glad you’re here, we are not just numbers. We are WOMEN"

I asked our Doulas "What is one thing you whisper to yourself after a long birth?"

02/20/2026

Some doulas are nurturing.
Some doulas are strategic.

We refuse to choose.

At our collective, we will rub your back through transition
& read the room when the energy shifts.

We will whisper encouragement in your ear
& calmly clarify policy when something doesn’t feel right.

We will cry with you when your baby is placed on your chest
and stand steady when decisions need to be made.

Because birth requires softness.
And it requires strength.

It requires someone who can hold your hand,
& someone who can hold the room.

Our doulas are trained.
Experienced.
Collaborative.
Intuitive.

We know physiological birth.
We know VBAC.
We know hospital systems.
We know when to lean in and when to step back.

You shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and competence.

With us, you don’t.

If you’re looking for a team that brings both heart and backbone to your birth, we’re here.

There’s this quiet expectation in birth work that doulas are supposed to carry everything.

The emotional weight.
The 3am texts. The reschedules. The second-guessing. The “can you just…”

Alone.

We don’t believe in that model.

We believe doulas deserve:
– Backup that’s actually reliable
– Colleagues who answer the hard questions
– Space to debrief after heavy births
– Time off without guilt
– Shared wisdom instead of silent comparison

A collective isn’t just a marketing strategy.

It’s infrastructure.

It protects clients from burnout gaps.
It protects doulas from isolation.
It creates sustainability in work that asks a lot.

Birth work is sacred.
But it is still work.

And work deserves systems that support the people doing it.

One of our Doulas is teaching a Workshop!

"The Work before the Work" Doula Workshop

✨ *A training for doulas on meaningful prenatal visits* ✨

Birth support doesn’t start in labor
it starts in the conversations, trust-building, and groundwork laid before the birth.

If you’ve ever wondered:
• What should I actually be doing during prenatal visits?
• How do I structure them so they feel intentional, not awkward?
• Am I really preparing my clients or just checking boxes?

Then this class is for YOU!

In this in-person training, we’ll cover:
*How many prenatal visits are recommended
*How to structure your prenatal visits
*What ask or listen for during prenatal visits
*Role-playing exercises

👥 **Who it’s for:
• Those interested in becoming a Doula
• Student doulas
• New doulas
• Experienced doulas wanting more clarity and confidence
