Women with a family history of cancer have a higher than average risk for breast cancer. A family’s cancer history includes ovarian, pancreatic, aggressive prostate cancer or breast cancer diagnosed at 50 or younger.

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center recommends women with a family history of cancer schedule a genetic risk assessment. Breast oncologists at its Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center offer at-risk women a comprehensive review of their medical and family history, genetic counseling and testing, a treatment plan for breast cancer screening and risk reduction during their first appointment.

Happy International Intern Day! 🌟
We're celebrating interns worldwide, and today we're highlighting a special story of resilience and dedication right here at St. Luke's Health-Memorial Lufkin (SLHM): Jaiden Adams!
For Jaiden, SLHM isn't just a hospital; it's practically home. His mother, Nancy Perez Jacob, our Cardiac Rehab Nurse Manager, has been a cornerstone of our team for nearly two decades. Jaiden grew up around SLHM, inspired by her work and the caring environment.
He received the Daisy Wadsworth Scholarship and is now pursuing his dream of becoming a physical therapist. But his journey hasn't been without its challenges. Last year, a serious health scare threatened to derail his plans.
Now, fully recovered and more determined than ever, Jaiden is back at SLHM as an intern in our outpatient rehabilitation center, gaining valuable shadowing hours. It's a true full-circle moment!
We're incredibly proud of Jaiden's strength and commitment. He's a shining example of the impact of community support and the bright future of health care.
