I love Dr Wayne Dyer so much. I miss him. I sobbed in my bed when I learned he passed in 2015. He is the only spiritual teacher who moved my heart so deeply. I used to say to myself “What Would Wayne Dyer Do?” And the answer was always so balanced, so generous, so kind… he is and will ajáis be my dear teacher 🙏🏻🥹

When we walk through our body, it’s like a guided tour of our body’s story. The body knows it’s whole history, every second of its life, every moment, all those the mind remembers and those it doesn’t…

My SoulBody Somatic sessions are special because I get to walk through your body with you, listening to your body with you. Helping your mind pay attention where attention is needed.

(I am actually walking in the field of energy that is your body and mine, but often I am narrating your personal sensations as though they are my own.)

It’s difficult to put words to this experience. Its best to have a session and experience it firsthand.

I’d love to teach you how to listen to your body, be present, and experience all the healing that is there for you.

To schedule a session, check the link in my bio, or comment SoulBody to receive a guided mini meditation.

Gosh, this rant just came out of me 😅 I’m going to post it and write a better caption later 🤗

Update: And I’m back.

I believe deeply that we create our lives from the inside out.

We are not passive beings.
We are dynamic.
We are creative.
We are powerful.

This means that we have responsibility for where we are placing our attention.

We have responsibility for our contribution in/to the world.

We have responsibility for our own nervous systems.

This post is about the importance of creating safety for our body.

This safety in our own body ripples out and affects the world around us.

We have power to create stability in our immediate world when the global world feels unstable.

We have the power of BEING PEACE within us when peace is not being found outside of us.

It is the only power we have to help a deeply struggling world.

So HEAL you. Take care of you.

Be in service to those immediately around you. Those you can comfort. Those you can listen to their needs. Those whose bodies need to be held. Those whose hearts need to be loved. Therein is your power. Be LOVE.

Sharing my cancer journey publicly is new for me. I have been hesitant to talk about the more difficult aspects of the journey; the parts of the journey that highlight my vulnerability as a woman, my sadness at what the cancer changed in me as a woman… and sharing more now shows me that I am healing, that I’ve healed… and that I can speak openly and proudly about the struggles, the strength, and the victories. I also know that sharing now means my body has processed its hurts and it’s traumas from this journey. There is a peacefulness and a completion. There is moving on… 🙏🏻🥹

It’s such an important conversation: the conversation between mind and body.

I often share with my clients that listening to our body’s sensations is a practice like listening to the birds sing outside.

When we quiet our thoughts and just listen for birdsong, there is often a pause in us as we listen.

Everything becomes quiet so that we can hear which birds are singing outside.

This is also how we listen to the sensations and emotions in the body. We pause our thoughts and quiet our voice, and just listen to the body’s expressions.

And when we listen, the body speaks.
We feel.
We become embodied.
We are present.

I chose this video because of the birdsong. Their songs are so beautiful. They are calling in spring. They are coming out of this harsh winter with songs of hope. 🌸🕊️

Change doesn’t have to take a long time. Sometimes healing is spontaneous. Sometimes all the cells in the body choose all at once to recalibrate to a different state, a lighter state, with more harmony and more balance.

When this happens, it is called a quickening.

✨I have the pleasure of experiencing this healing phenomena in my Medical Intuitive sessions.

When the body is in an active engaged field of presence, there is no time, there is just attention and listening.

This is the ideal state for healing. This is the space where cellular re-organization can occur. This is where collaboration between mind, body, and spirit is most potent.

The Body and Mind work as partners in the healing of trauma.

The Body relies on the Mind to acknowledge the body’s experience; its sensations, its fight or flight response, its “frozen time”.

Once this acknowledgment occurs, the Mind is amplifying and witnessing how the Body is Healing.

Trauma recovery is very much a recognition of the body’s story, not in narrative, but in physical sensation and emotion.

This conversation between mind and body can feel overwhelming at first. So we start with the basics:

🔹 What am I physically feeling?
🔹 How am I breathing?
🔹 What is my temperature?
🔹 Do I have any aches or pains?
🔹Can I feel my heart beating?

We ask the questions and then actively listen…

We develop a relationship with our body’s expressions. We get to know the way our body talks to us.

Once this MindBody relationship is established, we ask the body:

🔹What are you healing from?

Then we pause and listen for the body’s answer…

and this is where we let our compassion flow, our self-care come online, and we gently honor our body’s story. 🙏🏻
✨It was a pleasure talking with my dear friend and colleague, Xiaosong, about all things healing, trauma, culture, and spirituality. I hope you enjoyed this short clip from our conversation. The full conversation can be found on YouTube.✨

It’s such a big topic! ✨

Are we self-abandoning when we do not acknowledge our body’s emotions and sensations?

And if we are self-abandoning, what is the effect on our body?

Firstly, though, it’s important to acknowledge that self-abandonment is often for the purpose of protection. And that distinction matters…

Somewhere in our histories, we learned: if I feel my emotions less, I have more control, and I am less vulnerable to being hurt.

And this protection was important for our survival.

I deeply honor this usually unconscious adjustment in our social and emotional being.

Because without it, we may have struggled to move forward and function and survive in a world we couldn’t control at the time.

It was not only necessary, it was deeply compassionate to our vulnerable selves.

Now we have different choices we can make.

Now we are conscious about our social and emotional wellbeing.

Now we have emotional maturity.

Now we know how our bodies heal.🙌🏻

The two terms I use on repeat in group are accountability and responsibility. It may sound a little teachy or preachy at times, but they are integral to our success as emotional and social beings.

And more importantly, they are the source of our personal empowerment.

When we feel responsible for our own states of being, we are also empowered to heal those same states.

We talk about all this and more in our virtual Tuesday night SoulBody Somatic Group. We meet 7-8:30pm EST. The link is in my bio. DM me if you have any questions!✨

With so much love,
Colleen

I had the wonderful pleasure of joining my dear friend and colleague, Xiaosong Que, for a beautiful conversation and podcast.

Xiaosong is a gifted healer, a somatic trauma specialist, and a close friend since we trained together in Dr Gabor Mate’s year-long Compassionate Inquiry course.

For Xiaosong, it was 9am in the morning in China, and for me 8pm at night here in New Jersey. No matter our time difference, we always make time for deep and meaningful conversations. And I enjoy our conversations so much!

We talk all things healing, spirituality, trauma recovery, compassion, my own healing journey with cancer, and the shared worlds and understandings between our two cultures, from the East to the West.

In this short clip, I am speaking about my journey with cancer, and chemo in particular. In the full conversation on YouTube, we go into depth, not only about my cancer journey, but about my work as a somatic therapist, my work with plants and herbs, and how I have arrived now as a fully holistic therapist and healer.
