Finding a Place to Meditate
Choose a quiet place. You can do it sitting on a chair, on your bed, on the carpet or the floor, on yoga mat or outdoor on grass when warmer. Anyplace convenient where you are comfortable
When to Meditate
Recommend meditating in the morning right after waking up, so you have a positive start of the day and once before going to bed so you let go of all that your absorbed and faced during the day so that you can have an empty mind for restful sleep. Do only as long as you enjoy it.
However, if these times does not work for any reason, then be flexible, meaning you are the best judge of what works best for you in terms of place, time and duration.
How to Meditate
There are three steps to get into a state of complete joy, mental peace and totally refreshed
1. Becoming Calm : We are usually rushed up during the day, both mentally and physically, so take couple of minutes to calm down. Follow the steps to prepare for meditation
• Sit straight but relaxed, Open your palms and place it on your lap. Close your eyes. Keep your attention 100% on your palms trying to feel each fingertip and center of both palms
• At the same time, breath in slowly through nose like you are sipping in air through a straw, fill your lungs fully, hold it for 3-4 seconds and the let it out as slowly as you took it in
• For every thought coming in your mind, tell each of them “NOT NOW”. Keep telling this to each thought and they will not come back. Slowly they will all fade away
Do above three together for few minutes until you feel fully relaxed and calm inside
2. Clearing out : To remove ourselves completely from thoughts of past and future, as neither of them exist and by thinking about them we do nothing but just exhaust ourselves, do below
• Keep your left palm on your lap and right palm on the earth or facing the earth if you are sitting on a chair. Keep your full attention on center of left palm. Say this in your heart few times like a prayer “Please clear my left channel”. You are requesting this to the energy that has created us and resides within us. Sit few minutes with attention on left palm until you feel left palm starts to feel lighter or the heat on it that you may be feeling goes away.
• Now keep your right palm on your lap and raise your left palm up facing back towards the sky. Full attention on the center of right palm. Say this few times in your heart like a prayer “ Please clear my right channel ”. Continue this prayer until you feel lighter on your right palm of the heat on it goes away if there is any
• Next bring both your palms to the level of your heart, put down your head and keep your attention on center of both palms. Say this few times in your heart like a prayer “Please give me my balance”. Continue this prayer until you feel lighter on both palms or the heat on both goes away if there is any
During the above steps to clear out, if you still get thoughts, no matter how important they are then keep telling each thought very strictly “NOT NOW”. It’s like trying to calm naughty children in your head
The above two steps to get calm and cleared out has now made you ready to meditate.
3. Lets Meditate
• Keep both palms back on the lap, sit straight, eyes continue to remain closed during the entire process. Place your attention on the center of both the palms and try experience which of the fingertips in either hand are tingling, what is happening on the center of your palms if there is anything coming out like warm or cool breeze., what are you feeling on your wrists.
• Continue to experience and you will without knowing slip into a state automatically where your mind is completely silent, you are fully relaxed, you start feeling lighter and happy. Now during this if you feel like letting go of any emotion then let it go, don’t hold back. Just witness what is happening to you and continue to feel the center of palms as long as you enjoy
The moment you start to feel that you have to concentrate and there are thoughts coming back then get up. Don’t spend a minute trying to meditate. It must be effortless and automatic. The state in which you are not thinking, not trying and are in complete connection with your ownself is the state of meditation or state of Yoga which means union. Union of you and your spirit !
Playing some soft instrumental music can also help increase Thoughtless Awareness, although many prefer complete silence.
Try the above for atleast a week to start seeing results in not just you at all levels - mentally, physically and emotionally as well as people around you.
