Minimum Education and Experience Level
High School Graduate or GED equivalent– Must have completed an approved direct care worker training program or have at least two years of experience working with vulnerable adults who need daily assistance, either in a home care, institutional care, community care setting or some credible volunteer program.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the vision of the organization that LoveJoy is both a great place to live and a great place to work.
Perform all assignments in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the organizations’ policy manual, employee handbook and as instructed by supervisor.
Provide care to our residents that is consistent with the needs outlined in their person-centered plans. This also includes attending to their needs showing them dignity and kindness. Some residents may require assistance with personal care and activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and/or toileting.
Maintain a safe and clean-living environment, including but not limited to basic household chores, yard work and laundry
Act, speak, and dress in a professional manner at all times.
Properly and promptly complete documentation requirements (i.e. Progress notes, incident reports, staff communication logs, etc.) which reflect goals and objectives worked on with Residents. Communicate all critical, unusual incidents and important details occurring on your shift to oncoming staff and to management in a prompt manner.
Attend doctor’s appointments and resident outings.
Attend all required staff meetings, trainings and other professional development activities.
Properly administer and distribute resident medications
Prepare nutritious meals in compliance with the home menu plan, resident dietary restrictions or as otherwise directed
Encourage, and assist residents where appropriate, to engage in recreational, entertainment or educational activities, such as exercising, games, skill building lessons, reading, movies, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, etc.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Current certification as a Direct Care worker preferred
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Must have a positive attitude.
Capable of working in a stressed filled environment while maintaining composure.
Good understanding of the emotional and physical needs of developmentally disabled adults.
Experience providing direct care service to adults with a variety of disabilities is a plus.
Valid Michigan driver’s license and ability to drive a 12 to 15 passenger van is a plus.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Working Environment:
Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. of weight.
Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching and standing for long periods of time.
Work environment varies between indoor and outdoor activities.
Work with a variety of resident disabilities and behaviors.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including covering call-offs, holidays and weekends in a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week environment.
