Hi, I’m Olivia! I’m a speech-language pathologist by day, and a player at heart! From the living room to the therapy room, I’ve observed how taking a play-based approach to life leads to stronger language skills, relationships, and overall enjoyment of life!
In 2014, I graduated with my master’s from Eastern Michigan University. While at school, I was honored to be a Brehm Scholar, named most outstanding graduate student, and successfully defended my thesis.
After working in schools for years, I decided to take the plunge into the world of private practice. Over the past three years, Play Awhile has expanded to include a talented team of therapists, office staff, and neurodiversity affirmative services for local children and beyond!
Now, I work directly with my ideal clients (if you’re wondering, it’s young neurodivergent kids!) and am hard at work on developing my framework for playful parenting and therapies: Learn to Laugh.

The second core value of the Play Awhile Approach is “Plan Less, Play More”. At the beginning of my career I would spend hours creating insta-perfect activities for my students. My place of work at the time didn’t have colored printing so I would bring the black and white copies home to fill in with colored pencil. And guess what… no one cared! So I let go of my perfectionism and started leaning in to what maters- creating a welcoming environment with multi-contextual materials, and following kids leads. It truly made all the difference. Both in therapy outcomes and my own work-life balance! So, I challenge you no to plan less, and play more!

The first core value of the Play Awhile approach to speech therapy and play based learning is “Yes, And”. We acknowledge a playful bid (that’s the yes) and make it even more fun (that’s the “and.) For example, when your little one initiates a game of peekaboo, join in with them (that’s the yes) then make it even more fun by going under the blanket with them and nuzzling nose to nose (that’s the and. Joyful giggles ensue!
