We wanted to share some of the fun we had at our recent Laughter Lifts You Up fundraiser held at the Italian American Banquet & Conference Center, and since today is World Laughter Day, it seems especially fitting!

Thank you to all who helped to make this event a success -- to all who attended, sponsored, donated auction items or gifts, volunteered your time, and helped to spread the word about Angela Hospice's work and mission. It really is all of you who make magical events like this possible, and more importantly, your support makes such a difference to the families under Angela Hospice's caring wings.

Thank you again for all you do, and we hope you'll share a laugh today with someone special to you!

Jim was kind enough to share his story with us in the latest edition of our MONARCH newsletter. Jim met his wife Genie at Angela Hospice in 1997, and that was just the beginning of their love story.

With openness and sincerity, Jim talked about their love, Genie's illness, and the grief he's navigating now.

His story is unique, but it demonstrates the profound impact our community can make in the lives of grieving people. Read more on our blog: https://angelahospice.org/navigating-new-roads/

Friday is May 1, which is when our Walking Together group returns for the season.

This special group will meet each Friday at our Livonia Care Center under the portico to walk and talk together. This peer-to-peer support group is a way for grieving people to build community with other grievers, while enjoying fresh air and exercise on our beautiful grounds.

The group will meet each Friday from 10-11 a.m. No need to register, just come and meet us for a morning walk. If you'd like more information, you can call Angela Grief Care at 734.464.3277.

Our Catholic founders, the Felician Sisters, have instilled in their ministries the value of promoting the common good through a sustainable environment.

As Sr. Maryann Agnes Mueller wrote:

"All of creation is a gift from the Creator God, who in Genesis declared everything 'good.' As followers of St. Francis of Assisi — who recognized all creation, sun, moon and water, as our brothers and sisters — we are inspired to show gratitude to both the gift and the Creator by protecting, enjoying, praising and reverencing all of God’s creation."

What is one action you can take today to honor God’s creation?

Here are a few simple ideas:

🌸 Plant native wildflowers to support butterflies and pollinators
💧 Try to use less energy and water
💻 Transition to an eco-friendly search engine
🥗 Eat more plant-based meals

As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week, our Director of Supportive Care Teri Schmitchen shared:

"I think hospice volunteers are some of the bravest people I know. While so many in our society turn away from those facing serious or terminal illness or those grieving, our volunteers step right up, hearts wide open."

This week, and every week, we are grateful to our volunteers for their generosity, empathy, and unwavering commitment. Angela Hospice volunteers are the wings that lift our mission and the gentle presence that brings comfort when it is needed most! THANK YOU!

Today we share a tool for those who are grieving, from our grief counselor Meg:

To practice self-compassion asks us not to push aside, dismiss, or ignore our difficult feelings. Instead, we can practice the RAIN technique for self-compassion. The acronym RAIN asks us to recognize how we are feeling, allow those feelings to be present, investigate what they feel like, and nurture ourselves with understanding and care.

R – Recognize
A – Allow
I – Investigate
N – Nurture
