🚨 Important Update for Detroit-area Veterans: New Federal Electronic Health Record goes live April 11, 2026
On April 11, 2026, the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center will transition to the new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR). This system allows your VA clinicians and community providers to securely access your medical history in one place—helping improve continuity of care.
✅ You’ll continue managing your care through My HealtheVet on VA.gov and the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app.
✅ Your active prescriptions will automatically transfer to the new system.
However, there will be brief pauses in online messaging and prescription refill features during the transition.
Please review these important dates:
Secure messages pause: April 4–13, 2026
Online refill requests pause: April 7–13, 2026
During these windows, you can still request refills:

📬 By mailing in a refill slip
🏥 In person at your appointment
We encourage Veterans to plan ahead and request refills early if you’ll need medications during this period.

Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

If you’re a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserves, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, and you meet the requirements listed here, you may be able to get benefits through MGIB-SR.

One of these must be true:

You have a 6-year service obligation (you agreed to serve 6 years) in the Selected Reserve, or
You’re an officer in the Selected Reserve who agreed to serve 6 years in addition to your initial service obligation
And all of these must be true:

You complete your initial active duty for training (IADT), and
You get a high school diploma or certificate of equal value, like a High School Equivalency Diploma or GED, before finishing IADT, and
You stay in good standing while serving in an active Selected Reserve unit
