How about another case?

This horse was found while the owners were feeding that evening and immediately sought veterinary attention with Dr. Lawton. Since the wound appeared to be less than 12 hours old it was sutured and healed very well!

The other interesting thing about this case is the patient had a heart murmur - very uncommon in horses and it can be difficult to safely sedate them due to cardiac issues. He was given local anesthesia around the wound and a small amount of sedation to help suture the area. The owner reports there is barely a scar once the sutures came out!

Dogs aren't the only animals that sometimes tangle with a porcupine!

Dr. Lawton had two cases of quilled livestock last year! The cow was easy to restrain and pull the quills out with no issues. The donkey was not very handled and had to be anesthetized for us to safely extract the quills. She was lucky none were in a joint! She recovered well and was given antibiotics and pain medication. Hopefully she learned her lesson and will stay away from the unfriendly quill-beasts!

Puppy vaccines are a must for any new dog coming into your family. These vaccines protect your new family member from diseases such as Parvovirus, distemper, and parainfluenza. All of which can be life-threatening to a young puppy with a limited immune system.

If you are unsure what your dog needs vaccine-wise to stay protected call your veterinarian and schedule an exam! We recommend puppies start vaccines as early as 6 - 8 weeks!

Fun Foal Friday!

It's foaling season and the babies have started to arrive! This is one special little c**t born March 7th out of CR Stylish Lil Pepto (AKA: Moonie) and Metallics MVP!

Moonie has been with the owner since she was born and now is adding to the amazing bloodline this owner has cultivated! She has earned the ACHA reserve champion title as a 4 and 5 year old. Not to mention she is a favorite in the barn for her great demeanor!

By crossing her with the 2022 NCHA open world champion we expect amazing things from this c**t and are happy to cheer him on! Flying C Quarter Horses know great horses and are breeding champions! Thank you for letting us join your amazing journey!

As the days get longer and everyone starts riding again don't forget your horse's yearly dental exam!

Horses continually grow teeth throughout their life and can develop sharp points which cause pain when eating or with a bit in the mouth. We recommend a yearly dental exam/float to ensure your horse has no abnormalities and allows the veterinarian to find issues quickly so we can prevent big problems!

Due to the Eclipse and expected road closures on Monday April 8th, we will be closed. There will be no emergency services for small animals. Large animal emergencies will be taken on a case-by-case bases depending on road closures and availability to access the emergency.

Please plan accordingly and have a route in place in the event of an emergency to get your pet help as quickly as possible. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope everyone stays safe this weekend!

As you start to turn bulls out for the year think about bringing them in for a Breeding Soundness Exam (BSE)! This is an important test to evaluate your bull's ability to service your cattle and produce calves for the following calving season.

This is also an important test to have prior to buying a bull or selling one to ensure they will get the job done before purchase! The BSE will identify issues and give recommendations to keep or cull your bull so you'll have a better pregnancy rate for the next calving season!

The patient had three large uroliths (mineral deposits in the bladder; AKA: bladder stones) that were causing her urination issues and surgical removal was curative. The patient was able to urinate much easier after this surgery and has done well!
